A Faithful Saying
This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men.
Titus 3:8
Paul had passed on to Titus all that he needed to teach in order to have healthy, Bible-based churches all across the Island of Crete. He assured Titus that all he had taught him from the Scriptures was true and faithful and could be completely trusted.
Titus was to teach doctrine. It should be affirmed constantly to all those who believed in God. The evidence of believing in God should manifest itself in good works. Underline that. Our works do not save us, but they demonstrate true Christianity and true salvation by faith. Believers are always to maintain good works. They are to dedicate their lives to the work of the Lord.
Why is that good and profitable to men? Our lives have purpose and direction when we live a life of obedience. The Lord will bless us. He will use our lives to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ through which souls are saved. We will be used by the Lord to build His kingdom.
Living your life for Christ is the best thing you can do. It is a life of self-sacrifice––a life that emulates Christ who gave His life willingly for us. Examine what Paul wrote in Romans 12:1-2 NLT:
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Discover God’s will for your life by obeying what you study each day in your Bible. Is there a command to obey? A Scripture to apply to your life? A promise to encourage you as you take steps of faith?
I have no faith in my faith. My faith is in the faithful God.
