The Kindness and Love of God
But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us...
Titus 3:4-5
Many people see the Lord as a God of wrath, and yes, righteous anger is a part of His character. In justice, He brings His wrath upon the wicked, as stated in Romans 1:18: For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.... God takes no joy in the death of the wicked: “For I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies,” says the Lord God. “Therefore turn and live!” (Ezekiel 18:32). He pleads with sinners to repent and turn from their evil ways.
The kindness and love of God was shown to us through the sacrifice of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. He came and lived among us, only to die on the Cross, so that we might have eternal life! We are not to neglect so great a salvation offered to us:How ...how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation...? (Hebrews 2:3).
Romans 2:4 shows us another facet of God’s character. It is His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering... [that] leads you to repentance.... Understand that God is merciful. It is through His mercy that we are saved: Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness (Lamentations 3:22-23).
Our salvation cannot be attained by our own righteousness––no possible way. And yet, how many people are trying to be saved by works? There is nothing good we can do to be saved. The Scriptures reveal our hopeless state: But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are like filthy rags... (Isaiah 64:6). Only God can save us!
Know your God. He does not want you to perish in your sin. He wants you to respond to His love and kindness and repent. Salvation is so simple. What is your decision? Will you turn from your sin and live?
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
~John 3:16~
