The Counsel of God’s Word
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12
Many couples with difficulties in their marriage seek expensive professional marriage counseling or a psychologist. Yet these counselors can only relate to them on the basis of what they have learned about marriage and family life in college. They have received an education, but it is all psychology!
I am not a professional marriage counselor, but I have been ordained by God to give people the counsel of His Word. Seriously, God’s Word is free and it can heal your marriage. The Word of God is clear. If couples are willing to submit to the Lordship of Christ, the Word of God will help them back on target. A husband’s and wife’s submission to Christ and His Word is key to having a successful marriage.
In marriage counseling, a couple should be given the Scriptures. It is not about who is wrong or right, but what does the Bible say? What does the Bible teach concerning marriage? Then, they should live according to what the Word of God teaches. A couple has a choice to make, to be obedient or disobey. Nobody can force a husband or wife to do anything. It has to be the work of the Holy Spirit. He will convict them.
There are women who are self-willed; they are not willing to submit to their husbands, and there are husbands who intimate and bully their wives. Where is the love of Christ? If a root of bitterness is growing between them, they will grow to hate each other.
The home should not be a place of tension but a haven where the husband, wife and children communicate and feel at peace. Father’s should lovingly take charge of the home so the wife and children feel secure. It is never too late to make changes. If a husband and wife spend time alone with God; He can help.
