Vigilant Prayer

Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains, that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.
Colossians 4:2-4

Paul was earnestly driven to pray, fellowship with God, and worship Him. While in prison, suffering for the sake of Jesus Christ, he prayed to a God he knew and trusted. He asked God for an open the door so he could speak the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul requested a similar prayer be made on his behalf in Ephesians 6:19-20.

...and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains...

The key to prayer is knowing God. He desires to speak to our hearts as we sit still and communicate with Him. He speaks to us through His Word, through people, and through different circumstances. God is in the midst of us; He is not a billion miles away.

What seems to be your problem? What anxieties do you have today? Through prayer, God can bring peace to your life. When God spoke to Moses, He revealed that He would become whatever His people needed Him to be––“I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14). For many years, God’s people had prayed and cried out to God. He heard their cries and sent Moses to miraculously deliver them. God’s people came to know Him by name.

In prayer, recognize what God has done for you. Come before Him with thanksgiving for His deliverances. Think of the greatness of God as seen in creation. You are created in His image! God has a plan for your life.

Through intercessory prayer, God can use your life to reach the world. You can be a missionary through the power of prayer reaching––China, Russia, Dublin and Greenland. There is power in the name of Jesus!

“In the name of Jesus” is the key that unlocks the door of prayer and the treasury of God’s grace. It’s the weapon that defeats the enemy and the motivation that compels our sacrifice and service.
