The Christian Home

Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.
Colossians 3:20

God founded the home. The Christian home is of vital importance to any society. Parents are to raise their children to know, love and serve God. They are to nurture them with patience. Children will thrive in a stable and loving home.

Single parent families are on the increase. There are too many children who are being raised in broken homes. Where are the fathers? Many single mothers are forced to work outside the home to provide for their children. It is sad that so many children will remain with babysitters for hours and hours. Children suffer a lot of heartache. Their young lives are impacted for years to come.

I believe the reason there are so many rebellious children today is the parents are failing to spend enough time with their children. They come home from school to an empty home. There are no parents to welcome them. Some children develop a bitter attitude as a result. They wrestle with thoughts that they are not valued. They believe material things are of much more importance to their parents. It is important to communicate with your children and spend time together as a family. God has entrusted them to you for eighteen years, and they will soon be gone.

Christian children also have a responsibility––to obey their parents. This is pleasing to the Lord. Yet there is no way a child can obey their parents if they are asked to do something that is against God. It will violate their conscience. Parents make mistakes when raising their children, but God is a God of second chances. It starts with us––parents and grandparents. I believe the only way to change our homes is by repentance, obedience to God’s Word, and prayer. That is the solution.

Do you have a place in your home set aside for prayer? As a husband, pray with your wife and your children. Build a solid, spiritual foundation for your home and the next generation.

“God knew that children grow and mature best in a stable, loving family, and this was one reason He gave marriage to us.”
~Billy Graham~
