A Testimony of Faith

And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise, God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us.
Hebrews 11:39-40

Take time to reread Hebrews 11. Think about the names written and those without names. These men and women who, for the most part, never saw Jesus, believed by faith. They obtained a good testimony through having an unshakable and unwavering faith. I love that. They had their hope in the coming Messiah. Again, even though most never saw Him, they believed. Through eyes of faith, they held on to the promises of the Resurrection, knowing there was a better place for them––heaven.

Most of us have never seen Jesus either, but praise God that we have the entire Bible to read. We are blessed to have the Old Testament and the New Testament. Who has been revealed to the world in the New Testament? Jesus. He dwelt among us: And the Word [Jesus] became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth (John 1:14).

God has provided something so much better for us––the grace and truth of God through Christ. Those who have gone before us are not made perfect apart from us. Through Jesus Christ, we are joined together in the same faith with the saints of old. Jesus Christ is the Perfector of our great faith.

So, Lord, we pray that you have your way within each one of our hearts today. We ask that You help us to never deny You in times of trials and persecution. Help us to believe that You are in complete control of our lives. Through our faith in Christ, may we maintain a good testimony before our families, friends, neighbors and coworkers. Help us to stand steadfast and immovable in the faith, no matter what.

The ringing testimony of the Christian faith is that God is able.
