An Obtained Inheritance

In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.
Ephesians 1:11-12

Notice, the next recorded blessing in the Christian’s life is that we have obtained an inheritance. We are heirs together of Christ and of His kingdom. I like that! In the future to come, as believers, we have a great inheritance in Jesus, as everything He owns becomes ours. God has an eternal plan, not a temporal plan. The people of the Lord are incredibly blessed. I look forward to His plan!

The reason believers are going to obtain an eternal inheritance is because they have placed their faith and trust in Jesus Christ––fully and completely. As His sons and daughters, we belong to Him. He has a purpose for our lives in this world. Understand, we may live in this world, but we are not of this world.

Another blessing in our position in Christ is that we need not fear death. A Christian knows where they are going when they die––heaven. It is a great place. Jesus told His disciples:

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. ...I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:1-3).

Believers in Christ have so much to look forward to. When people who do not know Christ experience a death in the family, it is very hard because they have no eternal hope. Christians have a hope in Jesus Christ and the sure promise that they will see their loved ones again in heaven. Thank God, we have a great hope and inheritance in Christ.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you....
