The Doctrine of Salvation

Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
1 Timothy 4:16

Lastly, to complete 1 Timothy 4, Paul expressed a continual vigilance in remaining in the doctrine of God’s Word. He exhorted the young scholar, because in careful study, Timothy had gained a saving knowledge of salvation through Christ for himself, and he became an influence in the lives of others by leading them to salvation. As he preached the Gospel, people would hear the message and have the same opportunity to believe in Christ by faith.

Think about it. As Christians, our lifestyle becomes a living testament to others of how God can transform lives. When the door of opportunity opens to share the life-giving Gospel of Jesus Christ with them, they can make a decision to accept Jesus Christ’s love and mercy for themselves.

When it comes to sharing our faith with others, some Christians are very apprehensive. Have you ever heard of the Roman Road? It is a very simple way to share the Gospel with someone. There are five key Scriptures to underline in the book of Romans that will walk someone through a path to salvation.

First, Romans 3:23 tells us that we are all sinners. Second, Romans 5:8 states that although we are lost sinners, because of God’s great love, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us. Third, Romans 6:23 gives the reality of what happens when we decide to live a sinful life, or when we choose to accept the gift of God’s love––we receive eternal life in Christ.

How do we accept Christ? We follow the Roman Road to the fourth Scripture, Romans 10:9-10: ...that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

After confessing Christ, finally, we come to our fifth Scripture, Romans 10:13: For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.” What are you waiting for? Now you are equipped to share the Gospel!

I am a great sinner and Christ is a great Savior.
