Time Is Short
Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.
Colossians 4:5-6
Redeem the time! Understand, to become a disciple of Jesus is to become a “learner,” to go to Bible study, and to consume and soak your whole being in the Word of God. Learn doctrine. Most important, learn about Christ––His grace, His mercy, His love, His judgment, and His coming again. Spend your time seeking God’s will.
In redeeming the time, we are to teach our children and grandchildren that the only safe haven is in the house of the Lord––to know God. Our children may be running around in the church, and they may be in Sunday School. They may be in places where they are around God’s people and God’s children, and they are growing up in the house of the Lord.
If children have not gone to Sunday school, they will face tough times in the future as young adults. If they have not been rooted and grounded in the Word of God or experienced the influence of being around God’s people, they are going to have a hard time in this world. If they have been near God’s people, and they have the Word of God, even if they stray, they will always return back to the Lord: Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it (Proverb 22:6).
Time is short! Look at everything that is happening with the weather––the earthquakes, floods and tidal waves––extreme weather. Things are happening all over the world, and people are left wondering what is going on. Jesus is saying, “I Am coming.” He has pre-warned us in His Word! Read your Bibles. Hear what the Word of God has said. We need to be listening to the Lord––redeeming the time.
The truest lengthening of life is to live while we live, wasting no time but using every hour for the highest ends. So be it this day.
