Jesus of Nazareth
“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know— Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death; whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it.”
Acts 2:22-24
Within Peter’s powerful sermon, he used the name Jesus of Nazareth. The village of Nazareth was insignificant, of no importance. Even Nathanael, before he became a disciple, attested to this fact by saying, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” (John 1:46). It was an insignificant town. According to Matthew 2:22-23, when Jesus’ parents returned from Egypt, they chose this obscure place for Him to grow up:
...he [Joseph] turned aside into the region of Galilee. And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, “He shall be called a Nazarene.”
Peter approached his audience as those who had crucified Jesus. Both Jews and Gentiles were guilty of His blood. God the Father was a divine witness to His Son Jesus Christ. The Father sent the Son and He accredited Him: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” Jesus was no ordinary Man; He healed the blind, the lepers and the cripples (Matthew 3:17). God allowed His Son to die on the Cross at the hands of sinners, for us. This was God’s eternal plan. Death and sin were conquered when Jesus resurrected––death could not hold Him.
Have you heard the words of Jesus of Nazareth for yourself? Have you looked at the evidence in the Scriptures to help you establish your faith? History and prophecy are undeniable proofs. Build a strong, unmovable foundation in Jesus Christ. Believe in the Resurrected Christ!
We Christians do not believe that Jesus Christ was the only one that ever rose from the dead. We believe that every death-bed is a resurrection; that from every grave the stone is rolled away.
