Questions and Answers

Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”
John 18:37

After an unlawful arrest at night, Jesus stood before Pilate the next morning exhausted. The High priest had held a secret trial in which Jesus was questioned about His disciples and His doctrine (John 18:19). He was mistreated and struck in the face by one of the officers. The Jews could not put Jesus to death, so they sent Him bound to Pilate who could do the dirty deed for them (John 18:31-32).

Pilate asked Jesus three very important questions: “Are You the King of the Jews?” (John 18:33), “Are you a king then?” (John 18:37), and “What is truth?” (John 18:38). Jesus answered Pilate and spoke to Him about His kingdom––a kingdom not from here (John 18:36). Jesus was indeed a King, but not just any king. Jesus stood in front of Pilate and revealed truth to him: “Everyone who is of the truth hears His voice.”

Maybe you have similar questions about Jesus: “Was Jesus the King of the Jews?” “Was Jesus just a good man or a prophet?” “What is truth?” God’s Word reveals the truth about Jesus and the reason for His birth:

…Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate… He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords… (I Timothy 6:13,15).

…Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood… (Revelation 1:5).

Study God’s Word to find the answers to your questions; then by faith ask Jesus to become your Savior and King.

Jesus said to him [Thomas], “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
