Casting Pearls Before Swine

“Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.”
Matthew 7:6

What does Jesus mean by what He taught here? He literally spoke about using discernment in sharing the Gospel with people. Be careful that you do not cast your pearls, the beautiful Gospel of Jesus Christ, to those who do not want to hear or receive it.

Be careful how you present the Gospel to others. We have a duty to give the Gospel to people, but if they do not want to hear it, then you do not have to give it to them. This is what Jesus is teaching, because there are people who do not want it! If people are rejecting the Gospel, you do not have to cast your pearls before swine. There are people who you just cannot share the wonderful things of God with.

We cannot convict people; we are not the Holy Spirit. He is the only one who can convict people. Remember, it was the Holy Spirit that convicted you and me! When you pray for a person, ask that the Lord, at some point in their lives, would somehow convict them through the power of the Holy Spirit, and that they would receive Jesus Christ as their Savior, and then be able to understand the things of God. We cannot make fun of those who do not believe; we have to respect them. One day God will deal with those person, and your prayers will be answered.

What is the Gospel? What are people accepting or rejecting? The Apostle Paul declared: For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek (Romans 1:16). Imagine what Christ has done for us individually!

The blindness of unbelievers in no way detracts from the clarity of the gospel; the sun is no less bright because blind men do not perceive its light.
