A Fool at Heart
The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.”
Psalm 14:1
Today is April Fool’s Day, and although not a legal holiday, it is celebrated worldwide. It is believed to have begun in 1700 in Britain, when some young pranksters began to play tricks on each other. April Fool’s Day spread throughout Britain during the 18th century. Others believe it came from Geoffrey Chaucer’s book, The Canterbury Tales, from 1392.
Regardless of how the day came about, God’s Word has much to say about fools. There are people who call themselves atheists. They believe in a philosophy where God simply does not exist, yet there is evidence all around us. God the Creator of heaven and earth is all around us. Just open your eyes: The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork (Psalm 19:1). Oh, Fool, can you not see the handiwork of God all about you?
Many people still live by another foolish philosophy: “Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die!” Jesus often taught people by parables. In The Parable of the Rich Fool (Luke 12:16-21), He warned them about the same foolish thinking. When a rich man built bigger barns to keep all his crops and goods, he thought to himself: “ ‘ “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink and be merry” ’ ” (Luke 12:19). Yet he did not take into account that he was not guaranteed tomorrow. That night, God required his soul! He lived very foolishly.
Intellectuals profess themselves to be wise. They believe in all kinds of worldly, woke philosophies. Intelligent educators, doctors and politicians are still trying to persuade innocent children and young adults that they are not who God designed them to be. Girls cannot be boys and vice versa. They are not wise; they are extremely foolish.
Today we need to have common sense, and that comes from knowing the truth of God’s Word. Do not be led astray by fools and what they think.
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness”; and again, “The LORD knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.”
~1 Corinthians 3:19-20~
