The Cure for Carnality
…for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not carnal? - 1 Corinthians 3:3-4
Paul watched what was going on inside the church of Corinth. He came to the conclusion that almost everyone was carnal. The majority of the church was sick, and they needed doctoring. It was as if he had to give them the right medicine––the Word of God––but the church was rejecting it. Yet, the Word of God was the only thing that could heal them. They needed to return back to the Lord and stop the carnal things they had been doing.
I am stunned when I see what is happening inside the church and not so much outside the church––it really can shock you! People can sit in church every Sunday and Wednesday, as they listen to the Bible study, and still they commit gross sin––think about that!
Pastors are actually speaking to sinful people and giving them their medicine––the Word of God––but often they refuse to take it; they do not obey the Scriptures. You cannot force people to take their medicine, even though you know it is the only way to heal them. Christians need to allow God to work in their lives so they can become instruments of His righteousness. Jesus told the Pharisees: “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance” (Mark 2:17).
We are all born into sin––we have a sin nature. We are born spiritually dead (Romans 3:23). We are all in need of the Great Physician. Only Jesus can forgive our sins and give us life eternal (John 17:3). Will you repent of your sin and ask Jesus to make you well?
God never forgives sin without at the same time changing the nature of the sinner.
