Mary, Blessed Believer

“Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!  But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord.”
Luke 1:42-45

Mary hurried to visit her cousin Elizabeth. As she entered the house and gave greetings, Elizabeth’s baby leaped for joy in her womb. She then was filled with the Spirit and spoke to Mary, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!” Elizabeth was so humbled by Mary’s visit. Mary was chosen by God to be the mother of Jesus.

Notice how Elizabeth acknowledged Mary’s child as, “my Lord;” Jesus would become Elisabeth’s personal Lord and Savior. Elizabeth, by the Holy Spirit, gave Mary confirmation and assurance of all that was told her by the angel Gabriel.  Imagine, Mary stayed with someone from within her own family who completely understood her situation. Mary may have felt alone as a young, unmarried, pregnant teenager, but she found solace with her cousin Elizabeth.  Elizabeth was a woman in tune with God’s purposes, and Mary must have been encouraged and comforted by her friendship.

Like Mary and Elizabeth, are you in tune with God’s plans and purposes? Do you recognize Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior? If you do this day, the Christmas story will take on a whole new, blessed meaning. Imagine, you will rejoice as you become one of the blessed believers in Christ!

“Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited and redeemed His people.”
~Luke 1:68~
