Little in Your Own Eyes
So Samuel said, “When you were little in your own eyes, were you not head of the tribes of Israel? And did not the Lord anoint you king over Israel? Now the Lord sent you on a mission, and said, ‘Go, and utterly destroy the sinners, the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’ Why then did you not obey the voice of the Lord?
Why did you swoop down on the spoil, and do evil in the sight of the Lord?”
1 Samuel 15:17-19
Samuel reminded Saul of his humility when he was called to be King of Israel. At first, Saul was doing what was right before the Lord. God had sent him on a mission, but he did not complete the mission. Mark in your Bible the problem Samuel pointed out to Saul about his life. It was his disobedience, “Why then did you not obey the voice of the Lord?” The problem was always his disobedience. Saul had disgraced God. He started well but he would not finish well.
When God has sent us on a mission, we need to fulfill that mission. Jesus was obedient to His mission––the Cross (Philippians 2:5-8). Why do we not obey God? Without obedience no man can please God. We cannot allow the little foxes–– the things we count as small sins to come into our lives. God desires our obedience. We have to count the cost of following Jesus Christ (Matthew 16:24-26).
When a person backslides it is because of their lack of obedience.Obedience is the key to our Christian walk. When there is no obedience the discipline of God will come. Christiansshould humble themselves before the Lord, and make things right before God. Why be chastened and disqualified from serving God because of pride––sad, but it happens all the time. Remember it is not how you begin your Christian walk that counts but how you finish it.
Humility is to make a right estimate of oneself.
