A Day of Appearances

But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.” - Matthew 28:5-7

Early Sunday morning, before sunrise, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, Salome and Joanna were on their way to the tomb to anoint Jesus’ dead body. Before they arrived there was a great earthquake.  An angel had rolled back the stone from the tomb and inside it was empty. Jesus had resurrected from the dead!  (Matthew 28:2).

This was a day of appearances––Jesus would appear to many different people. First, He appeared to Mary Magdalene (John 20:16-18).  He also was seen by Mary, the mother of James, Salome, and Joanna (Matthew 28:9). Then, in Luke 24:34 the Lord appeared to Simon Peter. Also that evening He also showed Himself to the disciples (John 20:19-20). After eight days, Jesus appeared to the disciples again, this time Thomas was with them. Jesus told Thomas:“Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.” (Luke 24:39).

Later,Jesus was seen: by over five hundred brethren (1Corinthians15:6). Saul, whose name was changed to Paul in his conversion, had also seen the Lord (Acts 9).

Easter Sunday is a perfect time to consider these infallible truths of Jesus’ resurrection. The Scriptures reveal Christ to us––He is our risen Savior. Do you believe this? If so, ask Him to forgive you of your sins today.

…but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
