The Return of the King

November 20, 2020

God’s desire is that everyone would know Him so that we could all live with Him forever. Sadly, not everyone will choose to follow Him, but for those of us who do we can anxiously await our King who promised to come back for us. While we wait it is important that we tell everyone we can about Him so that they have an opportunity to come with us.

The world is full of anger over injustices, and yet instead of looking in the mirror to change what we see we find ourselves spreading anger around us with words or protest. Whether we agree with those in authority or not, God has appointed them for His purposes and we are called to pray for them while living in peace with one another. When we live as though Jesus truly has set us free, then we are free to love and free to forgive.

When we read the Gospel message that Jesus came to earth, lived, died and rose again, it sounds foolish to believe such a story. However, for those of us who hear that story and put our faith in God because of it, the Gospel changes our lives.

The wicked lives we lead will eventually overtake us in consequence, but God provides a righteous life under His protection if we would depart from our wicked ways. The choice is ours to remain in our sin or to trust God.

Before God even created the world, He had a perfect plan already in place that the blood of Jesus would wash away our sin because He loves us more than we could ever imagine. His plan included each of us, His followers, by name in the Book of Life, and He is calling us to Himself so that we may be saved from the destruction of this world’s end and spend eternity with Him.

Many people believe that there are many different ways to get to God and that Jesus, as written about in the Bible, is just one way. The Bible is the only true Word of God that points out the Jesus is the only way to God. If we want to be in relationship with God, we must come to terms that the Bible is truth.

There is too much segregation in the world today, even and especially amongst churches. Like people gathering with like people is modeled in and outside of those proclaiming to love and follow Jesus. There is nowhere in the Bible that encourages segregating ourselves within God’s family. In fact, we are instructed to love each other fully, despite the outward appearances or lifestyle differences, because what unites us is Who we belong to.

When it comes to Christianity, the Body of Christ is made up of all believers who can never be alone once they join that Body. We always have Jesus with us, but we also need to remember to plug in with other believers around us.

When we are living in obedience to God and affliction comes, we can be certain that He is using those times to refine us and purify our hearts to make us more like Himself. No matter what difficulties we face, our hope and purpose are all found in Him.

We must remember that God can use the suffering we face for His greater purpose of molding and shaping us and we need to persevere. The longer we fight the adversity, the longer we may remain in it. More often then not, the end of the suffering is even greater than the circumstances before the suffering began.

We live in a world that is broken by sin, and that includes our own lives whether we want to admit it or not. In order to change, we must be in a growing relationship with God. When He lives in us, His love for others flows through us and we can change the world around us.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
