There are stories in the Bible of men who boldly stepped out of their comfort zone to stand up for what they believed in.  God calls us to boldly proclaim His name and what He has done in our lives.  When we make a decision to step out of our comfort zone and tell others about Him and then act on that decision, we are obeying Him by being courageous.  There are sometimes consequences to doing this, and it may cause others to look at you differently, but what matters most is that God is pleased because it is Him with whom you will be spending eternity.  The more we boldly step out, the more we begin seeing growth and small successes which not only encourage us to continue in such a way but will also encourage others to do the same.

The way God designed the family to work is for the man to be the head and take the responsibility.  The only way this can work in the greatest way is if that man is following God as his head.  God has modeled for that man the perfect way to love the bride unconditionally and giving is life up for her.  Though that may not always happen, and consequences come when mistakes are made, it is essential to continually check that the marriage relationship is working the way God intended it to work, and that comes first with the relationship between God and the man.  God is good and full of grace to help pick the man up when he has stumbled so that he can continue moving forward, modeling for his children the kind of man boys should be and girls should look for.

We tend to be excellent at things that will not last forever such as our jobs, our families, or even our sin.  Some of those things are not bad things to be skilled at, but we need to make sure that we are putting in all that it takes to be excellent in our spiritual lives rather than settling for being so-so.  The Apostle Paul tells us to run the race in such a way that we are focused on that finish, on Jesus.  We only have one life to live and so we must live it knowing that in the end we will be able to see every opportunity that we missed to grow spiritually ourselves and help others.  May we be constantly aware of those opportunities while we are here so that in the end we can know we gave it our all.

Too often we think of God as only caring about the "big" stuff, the things that really matter.  However, He is a God who cares about all things, big and small, and He shows that to us through His creation.  He did not have to create things so intricately, so beautiful, or even pleasure-filled, yet every bit of His creation speaks of His love for us.  All we have to do is look around at the ways that He has blessed us, even in in such a small thing as popcorn that is a seemingly silly treat.  He is a fun, creative and good God; all we have to do is look up and receive the blessings He gives us every day.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
