Killing It

June 20, 2019

The devil has always been out to steal, kill and destroy our lives, and because of freewill and sin he has been doing a pretty good job at it. But God has offered another way of life, an abundant life, when we yield our will to His and walk in obedience to Him.

When Jesus walked the earth there were plenty of Pharisees and people who had studied Scripture and still did not believe that He was the Christ. But if we look through Scripture and match up prophecy after prophecy, we can see that clearly He was the Son of God who can save us and change our lives forever.

The devil has no need to attack those that are already trapped in their own sin. It’s when we live in obedience and faithfulness to God, armoring ourselves with His Spiritual armor and choosing to trust in Him despite our circumstances that we become a threat to hell. Ultimately, the devil will end up in hell for eternity and we must put our trust in God to not end up there with him.

The Bible talks a lot about submission to authority in marriage, child and parent relationships, and elsewhere in life. Ultimately, though, the authority that we must submit to is God because He knows what’s best for us and will direct us in that way.

No matter what kind of earthly father you have, your Heavenly Father has promised to always love you and keep you as His own. Once you are adopted into His family there is no undoing that. We must obey God so that when people look at us they see our Father in us.

Following Christ means that you are part of the family of God, and as such you need to root yourself in the family gathering of a church. As a child of God you need spiritual parents to help guide you so that you can one day become a parent yourself. When you are rooted deep in the soil of a church you bear fruit that benefits God and others.

The Bible describes Christ as a shepherd and His followers as His sheep. Even though He promises to always come after His sheep that stray, it is better to listen to His voice and obey Him from the beginning. Our life on earth is short and so we need not waste it in disobedience.

Due to the number of different world religions there are, people tend to say that there are many ways to get to God. The Bible tells us that the only way to get to God and have eternal life is through believing in His only Son, Jesus Christ.

While a lot of suffering is brought on by ourselves, God can allow suffering to come for the purpose of growing and strengthening us. He has promised to meet all of our needs, and He has always been faithful to that promise. We must respond to Him by giving Him our all, in suffering or not, and live the abundant life that comes only by obedience to Him.

The Bible tells us that we are lights in a very dark world. Rather than hiding our light we need to go out into the world and contaminate others in a good way with the light that leads them to God. An indicator that we are following Christ in His light is that we have fellowship with other believers.

We can choose to do things our own way and worry about the burdens we carry that weigh us down and exhaust us, or we can do things God’s way. When God works through us rather than us work by ourselves the burden is lifted from our shoulders and we have rest.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
