When COVID-19 hit in early 2020, hospitals restricted family members access to their loved ones’ rooms. Without the comfort of an advocate or the desperately needed human touch at their bedside, many patients become more sick or die. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Steve Reiter continues to share the heartbreaking story of his wife, Elizabeth, who died alone in her hospital room during the pandemic. Thanks to Steve’s organization, ten states are moving toward a reasonable accommodation for a loved one to be allowed in the room around the clock through “Never Die Alone” bills.

Steve Reiter was madly in love with his wife, Elizabeth. After getting married in 2001, they had two sons. Years later, she was diagnosed with lupus and pulmonary hypertension, which led to her hospitalization in 2020. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Steve shares that because it happened at the beginning of the COVID pandemic, he was not allowed in the room to see his wife. Tragically, Elizabeth died alone, prompting Steve to create The Never Alone Project. Because patients thrive when a loved one is present, he advocates that at least one person be allowed to stay with a loved one at all times.

If the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective, how much more potent are the prayers of moms who gather to intercede on behalf of their children? On today’s edition of Family Talk, Fern Nichols and Sally Burke, the founder and president of Moms in Prayer International, continue sharing about their ministry, and urge mothers to walk through the four steps of prayer: praise, silent confession, thanksgiving, and intercession. Matthew 18:20 declares, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

In 1984, Fern Nichols was fearful about sending her two eldest children off to junior high. Realizing that the spiritual warfare would be intense, she asked another mother to pray with her for their kids' protection. That was the humble beginning of Moms in Prayer International, a ministry which now has groups in all 50 states and 140 countries worldwide. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Fern compares the efforts of the four friends in the book of Mark, chapter two, who opened a hole in the roof to get a paralyzed man to Jesus. With the heart behind Moms in Prayer, mothers have a similar desperation and determination to bring their children before Christ in prayer.

Not only are Christian parents forced to raise their kids in a culture that denies the traditional values of their faith, but also in one that strongly opposes them at every turn. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. Tim Clinton and his guest, author Dan Seaborn, address this concern by breaking down Dan’s recent book, Winning at Home. Seaborn stresses the need for parents to have a solid foundation in Christ to support their parenting efforts, even when they are at their wits’ end.
