Defeat the forces of darkness with one simple statement: “I worship the One true God”.

Hear

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 6:12).

Believe

The forces of darkness want your heart. They try anything and everything to capture your heart and mind.

They want you to bow to their greatness and pledge your undying allegiance.

They want your worship.

This was Satan’s goal for Jesus. He wanted to turn Jesus’s heart away from his Father. At a time when he thought Jesus was vulnerable, he took him to the top of a very high mountain and showed him the kingdoms of the world.

“All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me” (Matthew 4:9).

What was Jesus’ response? “Jesus said to him, ‘Away from me Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God and serve him only’ “(Matthew 4:10).

There is only one person worthy of our worship — Jesus Christ. Here is the good news. Through the power of the cross and the resurrection, God turned your heart toward him. He circumcised your heart so that you could love and worship him with all your heart and soul.

As a believer in Jesus, your heart belongs to him. As Paul wrote in Romans 6:17, “you have become obedient from the heart.” Although the forces of darkness will try to lure you away, your heart belongs to the One true God.

When temptations come your way,  trust the Lord to move you to say, “Away from me Satan! I worship the One true God and serve him only.”

Live

In times of great temptation or trial, remember Jesus. He knows how you feel. He was tempted in the same way and empathizes with you. So trust him. That is your act of worship. This will enable you to stand firm against the schemes of the devil and stand firm in the grace of Jesus.

In Him,
