Personal Relationship

David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years. In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah. - 2 Samuel 5:4-5

David reigned over the people of Israel for 40 years, but he served the Lord much, much longer. Think about the life of David. He was the youngest of his brothers, a shepherd over his father’s flocks. As the youngest child, David could never have imagined God would use his life the way He did, but we can see God’s hand upon him at a young age.

Remember when David stood up to Goliath in 1 Samuel 17. He was not afraid, because he knew the Lord was with him. Goliath had not come against men; he came against the armies of the living God

(1 Samuel 17:26). Even before his battle with Goliath, God had empowered David to defeat lions and bears who had gone after the flock.

From the beginning of his life, God had a plan for David. He knew what he was going to do with David’s life and David was faithful to the Lord. He placed his faith and trust in the Lord. He had a personal relationship with the Lord.

I can remember when I got saved, I was 24 years old. I remember Greg Laurie was 18 and there are so many more of us. None of us could have imagined how God would use our lives, once we gave our lives to Him and pursued a personal relationship with him. I am amazed and humbled every day. Look at your own lives. God has a plan for each one of you, as you submit to Him and grow closer to Him. Seek to know God personally.

There is no such thing as genuine knowledge of God that does not show itself in obedience to His Word and will.
