Splinters

March 24, 2011

There are some issues where we think it better to ride the fence than to actually make a decision for which side to be on. One of the biggest decisions we could make is to either be with Jesus or be with Satan. Choosing to ride the fence on this issue is choosing to go with Satan. No matter what it is that we are riding the fence on, we must move and stop collecting splinters. God won't make us a priority if we only keep Him as an option.

We all have sins in our lives that we would rather ignore than get rid of. However, when we ignore God telling us that a certain sin has expired and He’s ready for us to remove it from our lives, we may pull it out, smell it, taste it even, and put it right back in the “fridge” just as we do sour milk. We often feel better if we have some “milk” in our “fridge” rather than have nothing at all. But God is a provider and will never let us be empty. He is simply waiting for us to pour out our sour milk so that He can pour out His blessings on our lives.

There are three instances in the Bible that talks about knocking and are applicable to our lives. The first instance is when we are standing at a door knocking, asking for something that we want God to do for us. If what we are asking for is from Him, then we must persevere and continue knocking no matter how long it takes. The second instance is when God shuts a door, such as when He shut the door of Noah’s Ark. We better be sure we’re on the boat because when God shuts a door, it’s not going to open again. Lastly, Jesus stands at the door of our heart knocking and as Christians, it is essential to let Him in and begin a relationship with Him so that He not only knows things about us but so that He knows us intimately and we know Him.

In Ephesians 5, Paul talks about the way wives are to submit to their husbands and how husbands are to love their wives. While this is an excellent tool for right relationship within a marriage, it is also a picture of Christ and the Church. The Church, made up of all believers, is His bride, and as such we are to submit to Christ in whatever He calls us to do. Christ loves His bride, so much so that He died for her. So we now have a choice to either go head to head with Him who loves us, or let Him be the head of His Church and submit to His will.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
