Be Wise About the Will of God

January 14, 2020

Are you living for yourself or for God? That’s a great question to answer when you’re struggling to understand God’s will for your life. He really is amazingly clear about His purpose and will for the life of the believer. But finding clarity means setting yourself apart from conventional worldly thinking and sharply focusing on God’s Word.

It’s in Scripture where God tells you the purpose for your life. He has eternal work set aside since before creation for you to do—work that blesses God and others.

In this message, Stuart Briscoe invites the resistant, the negligent, and the paralyzed believers to step into a deeper understanding of God’s will—and discover daily, with joy, what it is He wants you to be and to do.

When we pray, most of us spend a lot of time praying for ourselves, our family, and our friends. Those are all good things to pray for. But there’s much more that God wants us to pray about. Prayer allows us to interact with all three members of the Trinity at the same time and be an active participant in helping to accomplish God’s will. In this message, Jill uses the story of the widow and her little pot of oil from the Old Testament to show us how to let the Holy Spirit guide us in our prayer life so that God’s purposes are fulfilled in the world and in our lives.

If you have friends who are not believers, they may ask how you know the Gospel is true. Paul was asked, too. Could he have misunderstood what others told him? Did he have some details wrong? No! Paul received the truth of the Gospel straight from Jesus—not from men! In this message, Pete Briscoe uses Paul’s letter to the Galatians to teach how the Christian life starts, how we are to live it, and what living in the Spirit looks like. It’s not a set of rules, but a wide open door to follow Jesus!

Martin Luther said, “Preach the Gospel to yourself every day.” We need reminding sometimes! In this message, Pete Briscoe turns to Paul’s letters to summarize the Gospel message and apply it to everyday life. Who are you in Christ? How does His death and resurrection empower you to overcome sin, trials, and even death?

Galatians is different than other letters written by Paul. In every other epistle, he finds something for which to praise the young churches before giving them advice. However, he’s so angry with the Galatians that he skips that section all together. Why? In a single word—legalism. It had infected their churches, and even today, it minimizes what Jesus did on the cross and tells us we have to do something to earn salvation. Listen as Pete Briscoe teaches how to avoid the lie of legalism and trust in Christ alone.

There’s a story told that Abe Lincoln purchased a slave and immediately told her she was free when they walked away. She began to question him: “Free to think what I want? Free to go where I want to go?” When he answered, “Yes,” she replied, “Then I think I’ll go with you.” Do we really understand that we’re completely, joyously free through Christ? And if so, why do we continue to act like we’re not?

Is Jesus your drill sergeant or your dance instructor? Are you marching along, trying to be good enough, trying to keep in step with everyone else? Then Jesus is calling you out of the march and into a dance with Him—sometimes messy, sometimes uncoordinated, but always focused on Christ and moved by Life with Him. In this message, Pete Briscoe invites you to stop marching, stop watching from the sidelines, and start dancing with life and joy!

Families have been under attack from the beginning of time, and they are under attack today. The devil, who hates families with complete disdain, works overtime to tear down every wall we rebuild. How do we overcome his opposition when we’re exhausted from the constant patch work? In this message, Jill Briscoe teaches from the book of Nehemiah on where to draw strength for rebuilding our family relationships.

How do we put ourselves together to live well in the midst of uncertain times? Learn how as Stuart Briscoe takes us to 1 Peter for a new perspective on joy—found through the work of the Spirit in and through us.

Luke is the only Gospel writer who records this part of Jesus’ life. Jesus is now a pre-adolescent. These years are known as “the silent years.”
