Living in Uncertain Times, Part 1

January 1, 2020

Happy New Year! This hopeful, generous sentiment is shared often at the beginning of a new year. But too often our happiness is dependent upon our happenings, and when things go wrong and curveballs come our way, happiness is gone.

So given the uncertainty of the times in which we live, how do we gird ourselves up for the inevitable disappointments we will face? How do we put ourselves together to live well in the midst of uncertain times?

Learn how as Stuart Briscoe takes us to 1 Peter for a new perspective on joy—found through the work of the Spirit in and through us.

Just before His crucifixion, Jesus told His disciples that they would soon “realize that I am in the Father, and you are in me, and I am in you” (John 14:20). As modern disciples, we must embrace the mystery of the mutual indwelling of which He spoke.

David the Psalmist described the experience of knowing “God with us,” saying, “I will fear no evil for you are with me; your rod and staff they comfort me.” In understanding and believing this, the heart’s true comfort is found.

Moses asked if he could see God’s glory, but he was told nobody can see God and survive. But God wants to be known, and He came “veiled in flesh” so that we could come to know Him and not be burned up by the experience.

What’s on your mind this Christmas season? Perhaps your thoughts are dwelling on the stressful demands of your job, a struggling relationship, or some big changes that will come with the new year. With so many things begging for your attention this time of year, it’s easy to miss out on the significance of Christ’s coming. Pete Briscoe takes you along as he walks through Mary’s journey to Bethlehem and shares what may have been on her mind as she pondered the coming of her child. You’ll learn how to be freed of distractions, reflect on the true beauty of Christ’s coming, and experience the significance of Christmas in a way that will impact you every day.

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10 Jesus did not say, “Come to me and I'll fill your life full of stuff.” He said, “I’ll fill it full of Me. I’ll fill it full of God, and then you will have life to the full." And that’s what Christmas is all about. We often forget that as we get busy shopping, baking, decorating, wrapping, and attending parties. In this message, Jill challenges us to keep the focus on Christ and the significance of His birth this Christmas.
