Winning the Worry War

January 16, 2020

Jill Briscoe will freely admit that even as a Christian, she struggles with worry—and she's not alone. Battling against worry and reclaiming the energy and abundant life that worry steals from us is a daily battle for so many people. Are you ready to learn how to rule worrisome situations and not be ruled by them?

In this message, Jill shares the turning point in her life when she finally felt the worry war pivot in her favor—and it had a lot to do with studying the story of Joshua and the battle of Jericho.

Life is full of many battles—big and small. An unexpected death, a bad relationship, or a rebellious teenager can lead to emotional battles that cause us pain and despair. It can be tough to understand how we'll get through it. In this message, Jill explores the life of Joshua and shows us how God helps us fight and win our battles.

We all can remember a time in our lives when we felt inadequate for something—parenting, a new job, or an unexpected life event. It's during these times that we can't help but think, "I can't do this." In this message, Jill teaches us how we can follow God's will for our lives by not only saying, "I can," but also saying, "I will."  Jill tells the story about Stuart, at the age of 17, being asked to teach about the Church at Ephesus.

Do you ever feel like you've lost your fire for God? Maybe you find yourself just "doing" your walk with Christ instead of having passion and drive to dig deeper. When we lose the fire, the rest of our faith suffers. In this message, Jill teaches us how we can reignite the fire to seek a more intimate relationship with God.

There is a war going on right now inside each one of us. It's the battle between good and evil, and it's been going on since the beginning of time. But what does that mean for us? In this message by Jill, she teaches us what the war is about, what role we play, and how we can guard ourselves against the evil one.

In 2 Kings 4, there's a story about a widow who has run out of options on how to pay her creditors. She's facing the real possibility that she will lose both of her young sons to slavery, as a means of paying her debt. This desperate woman is out of money, out of hope, and out of faith. She's angry at God for the situation she's facing with seemingly no way out. Have you ever felt that way?  How do you find peace when your faith is completely out of focus? When the sheer weight of the moment has blinded you to the Holy Spirit at work on your behalf? Jill Briscoe's message, A Little Pot of Oil will remind you that God is sufficient. And you have all you need when you have all of Him in all you. This teaching is also available in Jill's book A Little Pot of Oil.

God will use you, no matter how broken you are, if you are obedient. This is the lesson we can learn from the book of Esther. Esther started as a simple Jewish girl. But God asked her to be obedient, and she ended up risking her life to go before the king and make a request that her people be saved. She went with the knowledge that she would most likely be killed. But Esther had faith and was obedient.

Most of us like to put our roots down and feel secure. We don't like change. We don't like being pushed into situations where we'll risk anything. But sometimes God calls us to do this! God calls us to be believers, like Esther and Mordecai, who care enough about the souls of others that we risk our own comfort, and sometimes our own lives, in order to fight for the lives of those around us. Jill teaches us how to be believers who care enough to dare—believers with courage to do the right thing even when we're afraid!

Upholding the "Christian" label in a world like ours is vulnerable—it’s risky. If we live rightly in our wrong world, sooner or later we will find ourselves in conflict or threatened. When Esther's people, the Jews, were threatened, she had to choose whether or not she was going to stand up for them against the persecution of Haman. Would she keep her identity as a Jew a secret and save herself? Or would she stick her neck out and try to save the Jews? Jill encourages us to be like Esther, and to be unashamed of the Gospel message in our witness.

Have you experienced a darkening sky in your life? When you find yourself there, do you shine brighter for it, or flicker out? Esther's life seemed to be a downward spiral of difficulties. But she continued to shine brightly for God in the unbelieving kingdom of which she was now queen. As Jill takes you through the amazing story of Esther, a simple Jewish girl made queen, you will see that you, too, can be empowered by God to keep shining his light, even in an ever darkening sky.

Sometimes God's will isn't what we would have picked out for ourselves. It isn't what we want. And it's difficult to accept. Esther's life didn't turn out how she wanted it to. She found herself separated from her family and married to the unbelieving King of Persia. Through these trials, God made Esther into a Supernova, shining even more brightly in the hardships. But before she could get there, she had to die to her own dreams and her own plan. Are you willing to do the same?
