Running Out of Prayers

October 8, 2015
Have you ever felt like you're running out of prayers? Maybe you're disappointed with God because you prayed so hard and the prayer wasn't answered. Or maybe you've just run out of spiritual energy, or you're in a bad situation in your life and you don't know how you are going to get through it. In this message, Jill talks about what happens when we feel like we have no prayers left to give, and she offers tools for getting through it.

Based on 1 Kings 19:11-18, this is the 5th message in Jill's 8-message series, Prayer That Works.

In the story of Elijah, God answers Elijah's prayer and sends fire from heaven down to Elijah's altar, in order to show the people of Israel that He is the one and only true God. This is just one example of how God answers prayer. In this message, Jill uses the analogy of an altar and describes twelve components that make up our relationship with God. It's a way of helping us understand how God can send "fire" down to our altars to answer our prayers. Based on 1 Kings 18:16-40, this is the 4th message in Jill's 8-message series, Prayer That Works.

When we think of the "heroes of the faith," we tend to focus on the tasks they accomplished and the people they encouraged - but the things they accomplished on their feet wouldn't have happened if they hadn't spent time on their knees in prayer. Even Elijah had to start somewhere! He was a shepherd in a small town who cultivated "the hidden life" of prayer before God called him to change his world. In this message, Jill walks us through Elijah's story, before the majestic displays of God's glory on Mount Carmel, to a life fueled by prayer and trust in the Lord. Based on 1 Kings 17 and James 5, this is the 2nd message in Jill's 8-message series, Prayer That Works.

How's your prayer life? Are your prayers childish, easily distracted, unfocused and lacking in passion, seeing prayer as a way to get what you want? Or are they heartfelt, fervent, and effective... prayer that works? Drawing from the prophet Elijah's fervent prayer life and his prayers for rain in a drought, Jill guides us in becoming great "pray-ers" and encourages us that effective prayer takes time and work but is completely worthwhile. Based on James 5:13-19, this is the 1st message in Jill's 8-message series, Prayer That Works.

One of the hardest things in life is facing rejection, especially when it comes from someone we love. We, like Leah, might keep striving, struggling, and manipulating to earn acceptance from our loved one. We may feel alone, but God sees and hears what we endure. In this message, Jill walks us through Leah's struggle with rejection and shows us the God who saw, heard, and loved Leah through it all. Based on Genesis 29-30, this is the 5th teaching in Jill Briscoe's 6-message series, Running on Empty.

We all get tired sometimes. And sometimes in our tiredness we get to a point where we, like Elijah, say "I’ve had enough, Lord." Where do we go once we've reached that point? How can we find refreshment and get moving again? In this message, Jill uses Elijah's story to teach us that God alone can refresh us just as He did for Elijah. Based on I Kings 19:1-18, this is the 4th teaching in Jill Briscoe's 6-message series, Running on Empty.

What does your daily schedule look like? Is it full of errands and events? Sometimes we become workaholics and worriers, filling our days with too many tasks and constant concerns about things we can't control rather than taking time to focus on the most important thing of all. In this message, Jill uses the example of Martha to show us instead how Jesus would want us to fill our time. Taken from Luke 10:38-42, this is the 3rd teaching in Jill Briscoe's 6-message series, Running on Empty.

Life can be rough. Bad things happen. It's easy to take those bad things and walk down the road of bitterness where our relationships with friends and family suffer. In this message, Jill tells us how Naomi's experiences made her an empty, bitter woman, but she got back on track with the help of her daughter-in-law Ruth and became a full, better woman. Based on the book of Ruth, this is the 2nd teaching in Jill Briscoe's 6-message series, Running on Empty.

Ever have those prayers that God doesn't seem to be answering? We all have dreams and longings - sometimes they go unfulfilled. We wonder, "Where is God in my pain? Does He even hear me?" In this message, Jill uses the example of Hannah and her desire for a child to teach us that God does indeed hear us. Taken from I Samuel 1-3, this is the first teaching in Jill Briscoe's 6-message series, Running on Empty.

When we're suffering the consequences of our own poor choices; when we're bearing the brunt of someone's vengeance and anger; when we feel absolutely on our own and life is not working out as planned, that's when God will turn up. He wants to walk down the stairway of heaven right into our hearts to make us aware of His personal interest and concern. We learn in Scripture how God wrestled Jacob to the ground one night and turned him upside down - so he could live right-side up. Jacob became a "prince" with God instead of a pain. This message by Jill Briscoe is taken from Genesis 28:10 & 32:22-31.

God will use you, no matter how broken you are, if you are obedient. This is the lesson we can learn from the book of Esther. Esther started as a simple Jewish girl. But God asked her to be obedient, and she ended up risking her life to go before the king and make a request that her people be saved. She went with the knowledge that she would most likely be killed. But Esther had faith and was obedient. Based on Esther 6-10, this is the final message in Jill's 6-message series, God in the Shadows.
