Resurrection - I Am with You Always

January 23, 2017
"And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

It's no secret that all of us will die in the end. Even Jesus died! And this makes His resurrection one of the most important aspects of His life and a source of incredible hope for us.

Based on Matthew 28:20 and Luke 24

As much as we know about Jesus, there are some things the Bible doesn't spell out. When did He first know He was God's son? How did He know it? What did Mary and Joseph tell Him? What did His brothers and sisters think about Him?  The Gospels don't answer all of these mysterious questions. But they do give us enough details about His life in Nazareth and His ministry to illustrate how He lived inside humanity and how we should live, too. In this series by Jill, she paints a revealing picture of Jesus by studying certain statements He made at critical moments in His life. From His childhood and baptism to His agony in the Garden of Gethsemane and crucifixion at Calvary, Jesus was always dedicated to "doing His Father's business."  This intimate portrait of Jesus gives us clear direction on how, amidst triumphs and struggles, we, too, can live a life focused on the Father. When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. Based on John 19:30

Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will." How would you feel if you knew you were going to die painfully tomorrow? When Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane, He was struggling with that same knowledge, for not only was He to be crucified the next day, but He was also to bear the weight of all our sin! How did He deal with such emotions? And how can we handle emotions in our own lives? Based on Matthew 26:39

So Jesus said, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me." Jesus' ministry only spanned three short years but had an incredible impact, lasting millennia. What was it about his approach that gave him such power? Based on John 8:28

Does anyone ever ask, "How are you?" and you reply, "Well, under the circumstances...." The problem is that's exactly where we are living - under the circumstances! How do we rise above the adversity and sing a song of praise? From the Old Testament book of 1 Samuel, Jill Briscoe shows us how Hannah, under very difficult circumstances, found the secret. 1 Samuel 1 & 2

How do you stay when you really want to go? It's not easy. Abigail was a woman stuck in a difficult marriage with a difficult husband. But instead of being angry and vindictive, she showed godly wisdom and self-control in diffusing tensions, and remained committed to her marriage.  In this message, Jill Briscoe walks us through Abigail's story and gives us an example of how to deal with the difficult people in our own lives. 1 Samuel 21-25

When we think of influential leaders, we often think of those who make bold statements, those who are aggressive or loud. But not all change happens that way. Ruth changed her world using humble acts of love and kindness. Despite her circumstances, Ruth spent her life in service. She lived a life that exemplified love to those around her, particularly in caring for her mother-in-law, Naomi.  Jill Briscoe teaches us how much we can learn from Ruth about being a true friend.Book of Ruth and 1 Corinthians 13

Every day we fight battles: teaching our kids to clean up their toys, dealing with difficult co-workers or family members, getting society to clean up the environment. But even though these battles are big, there is an even bigger war going on - a spiritual one. While we know that God is the ultimate victor, we live every day surrounded by Satan's armies.  The judge and prophetess Deborah was surrounded by not only a spiritual war but a physical one! God gave her the gifts and talents she needed to complete the task He gave her. In this message from Judges, Jill shares with us Deborah's story and shows us how we, too, can respond to God and find our roles in this great battle.

Have you ever felt wrongly judged? Rahab was someone who was judged for her outer appearance. A harlot, known for keeping brothels within Jericho, no one would have believed by simply looking at her that she was seeking God.  Thankfully, God looks beyond what man sees to the desires of our hearts, and changes us from the inside out. Joshua 2-6 & James 2
