Discretionary Time

Think for a moment about the how you spend the majority of your day - working, attending school, raising children, running errands... Now, how do you spend the time that remains? Have you set aside time for the Lord each day? In this message, Jill encourages us to be intentional in connecting with God in all that we do and to make each moment count for Him.

This is the fourth message in Jill's series "Choosing" on the life of Solomon.

We have to make a lot of choices every day... financial decisions, relational decisions, parenting decisions. From making a very small decision to dealing with what seems like an impossible situation, we often find ourselves looking for wisdom and striving to follow God's will. We're seeking to make wise choices. In this message, Jill looks at the life of Solomon to help us understand how we can develop wisdom. This is the first message in Jill's series "Choosing" on the life of Solomon.

"I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10:10 Jesus did not say, "Come to me and I'll fill your life full of stuff." He said, "I'll fill it full of Me. I'll fill it full of God, and then you will have life to the full." And that's what Christmas is all about. We often forget that as we get busy shopping, baking, decorating, wrapping, and attending parties. In this message, Jill Briscoe challenges us to keep the focus on Christ and the significance of His birth this Christmas.

Have you tried to carry all of your groceries into the house in one trip so you didn't have to go back out to the car? Your arms are aching, the bags are pinching your fingers, and the food is beginning to slide out. But you keep moving, hoping to get everything into the kitchen before the bags break! Now imagine that someone in your family came out as you were unloading your bags and offered to carry them so you could sit down to rest. You probably wouldn't turn them down! Well, Jesus has made this offer - He wants to carry our burdens. We just need to say yes. In Matthew 11:28-29, Jesus says:  Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. This is the 2nd message in Jill's 2-CD series, "A View from the Porch Swing."

One of the best known passages in the Bible is Psalm 23. It describes the relationship between a shepherd and His flock, in which He guides them through pastures, hills and dark valleys. In every case, the sheep are content because the shepherd is there, offering protection and comfort. We are the sheep in this story! Jill teaches that no matter what is happening in our lives, good or bad, the only way we can find true contentment - and even joy - in every situation is by trusting in the Lord, our shepherd, who promises to never leave us. This is the 1st message in Jill's 2-CD series "A View from the Porch Swing."

Life is full of squalls - sudden unannounced and unexpected storms that can lead us to question if God is in control of our lives. Death, sickness, unemployment, broken relationships, fears and failures are some of the troubles Satan uses to swamp us with doubt, usually when we're already stressed and exhausted. How do you respond when you're hit with the squalls of life? Are you like the disciples in Mark 4 who wondered why Jesus slept while their boat was sinking, or do you believe God is in as much control when He's seemingly asleep as when He's obviously awake? Do you pray, "Don't let there be another squall"? Or do you see storms as part of God's plan for your life? Teaching from the Gospel of Mark, Jill Briscoe addresses the issues of suffering and faith, challenging us to examine our beliefs in God in the midst of trouble.

When we think of love, it's often the flawed, fleeting variety that lasts only as long as we are happy. But that kind of love isn't the love described in 1 Corinthians. God's love is bigger and deeper than that - to see it you only have to follow Jesus through the Gospels! Jill takes a fresh, in-depth look at the popular subject of love, contrasting what we know of love and what God tells us love should be. Based on Luke 10:38-42, this is the 6th teaching in Jill's 6-message series, "Living Love." In this final message, Jill looks at Mary of Bethany and the alabaster box.
