Are You Good Soil?

March 16, 2018

The fields are ready—people are dry and waiting to hear a message of hope, meaning and purpose of life. The seed, the Word of God, is dynamic, powerful, precious and full of life. God calls those in His kingdom to share this good news. Like a farmer sowing seed, we are to be spiritual farmers generously spreading God’s truth.

But why is it so hard to share our faith? Is it that we’re waiting for perfect weather before risking to go out in the fields? Or are we not seeing the lost the way God does? Are we not aware there’s an enemy circling us, seeking to thwart our plans and snatch the seed?

With attention-grabbing stories and personal insight, Jill teaches us to focus on being good soil—taking God’s truth and with His watering, producing a spiritual harvest for His kingdom.

When the Holy Spirit comes into our lives, we receive all of Him into all of us. But did you know that we can abuse Him? He is abused when we suppress Him, quench Him, or subdue Him. Limiting Him to only certain areas of our lives is considered abuse... and a sin.

In us there is a well of water that continually quenches our thirst. It is the Holy Spirit that flows like a stream in our hearts. When we call on Him, the river overflows and refreshes our souls, enabling us to do God’s work without getting burnt out.

In the Scriptures, oil is used as a symbol of joy and gladness. And we as Christians have a little pot of oil in us that will never run dry. The Holy Spirit is the oil in our lamps that keeps us burning, allowing us to be a light in this dark world.

Jesus said it was better that He leave earth so the Holy Spirit could come. He was one body amongst the people, but the Spirit would come to live inside of us. The Holy Spirit acts as a Fire that sets our souls ablaze and gives us the power to do things that are beyond our own strength.

Families have been under attack from the beginning of time, and they are under attack today. The devil, who hates families with complete disdain, works overtime to tear down every wall we rebuild. How do we overcome his opposition when we're exhausted from the constant patch work? In this message, Jill Briscoe teaches from the book of Nehemiah on where to draw strength for rebuilding our family relationships.

In biblical times the extended family structure, that included various generations, differed widely from the nuclear family we experience today. In our current culture we may be in danger of losing generational interaction.

There are no guarantees that all will go smoothly in life or marriage because there are many forces intent on destroying our lives and relationships. But God promised us the resources we need to deal with life’s eventualities and we have to decide which way we are going to go—or as Joshua said, which gods are we going to serve?

How can we live above the problems of everyday life? Habakkuk tells us how, and it’s all about getting God’s perspective. There is unspeakable joy in embracing, accepting, and submitting to whatever “burden” God has called each of us to endure. With His help, we can live above it. This is the second part in Jill’s two-part series on the spiritual art of leadership.

Effective ministry will not happen if the ones who are seeking to minister have lost their cutting edge. In building the Kingdom, it is critical to stay spiritually sharp. The question is knowing how to do that. This is the first part in Jill's two-part series on the spiritual art of leadership.

If the enemy can’t separate you from God, he’s content to do the next best thing... distract you with subtle traps that will draw you away from God. These traps may seem like normal things in life that you manage every day—time, money, self. But if you get caught up in the bait he sets in these areas, you’ll struggle with priorities and gradually begin to turn away from God. And you might not even realize it.  Jill teaches about these deceptive traps that women, in particular, often wander into. What specific bait are you most susceptible to? How can you resist and steer clear of the traps set before you? Are you stuck in one right now? As Jill explains, the tools to break free are waiting for you in God’s Word.
