To All God's Servants, Part 1C

July 23, 2015
Welcome to Sound Doctrine Radio with Jeff Johnson Senior Pastor of Calvary Chapel of Downey.Jesus Christ is the greatest example of how to minister to people. He always made Himself approachable to those in need. The human tendency can be to distance ourselves and never allow pepole to get close to us. This doesn't make for a very effective minister. We all have a ministry role to play in the body of Christ, because there are millions who are lost. So in our ministry we need to be as approachable as possible. Join Pastor Jeff for Part 1C of To All God's Servants.

Welcome to SDR with Jeff Johnson Senior Pastor of CCD. Pastor Jeff is teaching through the series called, To All God's Servants a 12 part study through the book of Acts. God has given each person a special gift and ability to use in ministry. Sadly, some people become proud in the gifts they have received from the Holy Spirit. This attitude is wrong, we are meant to be a blessing to the church not a curse, but God has His way of correcting this in us. Stay tuned for part 2 of To All God's Servants.

Welcome to SDR with Jeff Johnson Senior Pastor of CCD. Today, we begin a new series called, To All God's Servants a 12-part study in the book of Acts. As Christians, we are all called to serve in the ministry. Whether that is serving as a pastor, Sunday school teacher, or simply encouraging others. Whatever ministry we are called to, there is a certain criteria the Lord has for everyone who is involved in ministry and that is…to be a servant. Pastor Jeff begins in Acts 20:17 with the series, To All Gods Servants.

Have you ever wondered what it would have been like to be an apostle in the early church? They seemed to have lived exciting lives full of adventure, but we can live exciting lives as well! The only requirement is faith. This is what the disciples lived on daily, and without faith we cannot please God. Today, Pastor Jeff concludes the series “Walking in the Spirit,” from Galatians 5 and starts with the story of Philip who left a city that was having a revival, to go to the desert.

Thank for joining us on Friday's edition of SDR. God wants to use and direct us. But In order for this to happen we need have to be in tune with His Spirit. He wants to take us great distances, that may mean moving over seas as a missionary and sharing the gospel, or it could be crossing your own street to share with your neighbor. But wherever He sends us, we must be filled with His Sprit to accomplish it.

Well, the Spiritual man also has an appetite for spiritual sustenance. As we grow in the spirit, we mature in spiritual matters such as love. Love is the key for walking in the Spirit, because God is spirit and God is love.

Jesus said in His sermon on the mount, "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light." It's amazing how our mind is easily corrupted when evil images get in.  These images imprint and affect our hearts. The flesh is an enemy that the Christian must deal with in order to survivie. Thankfully we are not alone, because we have the Holy Spirit to aid us in our war against the Works of the Flesh.

The 16th century mathematician Charles Bovillus said, "Many wild beasts lie lurking under the skin of man." This statement seen in light of Galatians 5 is spot on. The flesh is a terrible enemy that has a ferocious appetite.  It's very important for the Christian to understand their enemy. Pastor Jeff is in a series dealing with this very thing, as the Apostle Paul tried to save the Galatians from going after legalism and carnal desires.
