Leaning to our own Understanding Part 1

August 30, 2023

As you carefully study the Old Testament you can’t help but see Jesus all over the place!  One such place is in the story of Joseph.   We’ll see another brilliant picture of our Lord as the story develops.  In Genesis chapter forty-two Joseph and his brothers are reunited.  Keep in mind that while Joseph recognized them, they didn’t recognize Joseph at this point in time.

Today we get right back into Genesis and the story of Joseph.  Whatever we sow, we’re going to reap!  Sow to the spirit, we reap blessings.  But sow to the flesh and expect some terrible consequences.  And we’ll see this play out between Joseph and his brothers as we again focus on Genesis chapter 42.

When someone does you wrong, is the first thought that runs through your mind, “Oooh they’re gonna get it!”  After all that Joseph’s brothers did to him, some would say, it would be well within his right to seek vengeance.  But he didn’t.  As you’ll hear today, he had a heart of reconciliation.  And we should too as followers of Christ.

If you’ll recall in previous studies we saw Joseph’s brothers did him dirty, selling him into slavery. But now today the tables have turned.  There’s a famine in the land and everyone is coming to Egypt, where Joseph is now in charge.  He’s about to encounter his brothers.  How will Joseph handle this juicy situation? Let’s find out together on Sound Doctrine.

We all go through tough times and when we do we can so easily grow discouraged, bitter and angry.  But the believer in Christ can hold on to this truth… God is working it all out for good as trust in Him.  The story of Joseph reminds us of that.  And today on Sound Doctrine you’ll hear of how God prepared him and delivered him too.  You can’t help but see God’s mighty hand in Joseph’s life.

Who doesn’t love a good rags to riches story!  Well we’ve got a good one for you today on Sound Doctrine.  It features Joseph, who was rejected by his brothers, sold into slavery, then thrown into prison.  After 13 years of tough times, he became the #2 man over all of Egypt!  Pastor Jeff Johnson will show us how God often prepares and delivers us too.

Join us in Genesis chapter 41 today. If you’ll recall, Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers, falsely accused of rape and then thrown into jail.  But that’s not the end of the story.  As you’ll hear in a moment, Joseph would go from a prison to a palace, and become the 2nd most powerful man in the world.  Only God could do something like this.

We’re in the middle of a study in Genesis, looking at the life of Joseph.  In chapter 41 Pharoah has a couple of dreams and Joseph is about to help him interpret them.  Through it all we’ll come to a deeper understanding of God’s sovereignty!  I think you’ll be greatly encouraged as you hear how God rules and reigns in our lives, and His timing is perfect.

We pull back the curtain in the spiritual realm today on Sound Doctrine as pastor Jeff Johnson digs deeper into Daniel chapter ten.  There’s a lot we don’t know or understand in this whole area of spiritual warfare and angels, but this passage in Daniel gives us a glimpse.  And after all is said and done, I think you’ll walk away with a much better understanding of the ministry of angels and work of demons too.
