It's His Church: Problems Solved His Way! Part 2b

March 24, 2020

Find your place in Acts chapter fifteen, as we’re again reminded the church is God’s, and problems that surface are to be solved His Way, not ours.  This chapter describes a crisis that hit the church.  Some were under the impression that you needed to obey the law and be circumcised, in order to be saved.  Problem is, the law cannot save us.  It’s by grace that we’re saved through faith.

Back in the first century there were those that were under the impression that they needed to keep the law of Moses in order to be saved.  That sort of thinking still exists today.  But the problem is, the law is unkeepable.  We’ve all broken it.  So where does that leave us?  We’ll talk about it today on Sound Doctrine, as pastor Jeff Johnson digs deep into Acts fifteen

When we’re in the middle of a crisis, we tend to go into problem solving mode.  But if we’re wise we’ll ask God to show us the way and help!  That’s exactly what the leadership in the early church did, in Acts chapter fifteen.

How often have we seen it, a problem arises in the church, and the people try to solve it on their own… instead of seeking God for the answers.  Today on Sound Doctrine, we’ll see what can happen when a church takes their crisis to Christ.

Since the very beginning of the church there have been those that wrongly assume that we can somehow work our way to heaven.  They suggest  it’s by knocking on so many doors, getting baptized or circumcised.  As we open Acts chapter five on Sound Doctrine, we discover there really is only one way, and it’s a relationship with God through His Son.

When a crisis hits your life how do you handle that?  It’s about that time, you might be tempted to vent through social media, or pull out a gallon of ice cream!  But today on Sound Doctrine, pastor Jeff Johnson encourages a different approach, and that is to pray and seek counsel!

Today on Sound Doctrine we’ll see that God gives us something we certainly don’t deserve... salvation.   But while the Christian knows that they are saved by grace through faith, many in our world today distort that truth and add law into the mix.  This is nothing new under the sun.  It occurred in the early church.

We’re in Acts chapter fifteen today on Sound Doctrine.  And at this point in the early church there’s conflict and controversy. Paul and Barnabas have been doing the Lord’s work, sharing the salvation message with Jews and Gentiles alike.  But now they’re facing opposition within their own ranks.  In Acts chapter fifteen we read about a severe deviation from the Gospel message.

Today on Sound Doctrine, pastor Jeff Johnson finishes chapter fourteen of Acts.  At this point, the work has been completed, there’s great excitement, and they get back together to have testimony time!  In essence, rehearsing all the great things God did, and giving Him the glory.

I probably don’t have to convince you that life is difficult. There’ll be some bumps and bruises that we’ll encounter along the way.  But there’s something important you need to know, and that is what God is accomplishing through it all.  And Jesus will be there with you!  That’s the emphasis of pastor Jeff’s message in Acts chapter fourteen today on Sound Doctrine.
