Do Not Refuse Jesus

See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven...
Hebrews 12:25

Listen, we are not to refuse Jesus. Why? The book of Hebrews begins by telling us that God speaks to us through Jesus. Hebrews 1:1-2 says: God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son.... The Gospels are filled with the words of Jesus. In many Bible translations, the words of Jesus are in red, so they really stand out.   How beautiful it is to read these words and be impacted by them.

However, Jesus not only speaks to us through the Word of God, but He also speaks to us in our hearts. If we quiet our hearts in prayer, we will hear Him speaking, loud and clear. The point Paul was making here was that the voice of Jesus is even more powerful than when God spoke to Israel at Mt. Sinai!

When God spoke at Mt. Sinai, the ground shook, and His voice was like the blast of a trumpet. This voice was on earth, but Jesus speaks to us from heaven. Sadly, Israel refused to listen to God’s voice and was judged for it.  If God did that to them, will He do less if we refuse the voice of Jesus?

Today, people do not like to hear the truth, but those who reject Jesus are going to go to hell. They are going to be judged at the Great White Throne Judgment described in Revelation 20:11-15. Then they will be sent to the Lake of Fire. That is heavy. What a tremendous warning. Do not refuse Jesus!

Learn to keep close to Jesus, to listen to His voice, and follow Him.
