What Is Good About Good Friday?
So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
John 19:30
Is there anything good about Good Friday? Although painstaking for Jesus, His shed blood worked in our favor. Jesus willingly did what was good for us! His mission on earth was to redeem us; He completed that mission. The work of our salvation was completed on the Cross. Scripture records some of the final words of Jesus Christ while He hung in agony on the Cross: “It is finished!”
What was finished? The costly price for the redemption of mankind: In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace... (Ephesians 1:7). Now that you understand that the redemption price for your sin has been willingly paid by Jesus Christ’s shed blood, how will you respond to such an incredible demonstration of His love?
In Mark 1:15, Jesus Himself gave a call to repentance: “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” Will you repent and surrender your life completely to Him? There are many religious people in the world who believe they have earned a place in heaven on the premise of their good conduct or their church attendance. The truth is, salvation is given on the grounds of God’s grace. There is nothing any of us can do to earn our salvation––our good works are not good enough!
This Good Friday, realize there is nothing good about yourself; if you are to be saved, it is all because of the goodness of God! It is His goodness that leads you to repentance (Romans 2:4).
Thou sayest, I cannot believe, I cannot repent. But Christ is exalted a Prince and Savior, to GIVE repentance and remission of sins. Hast thou nought but sin and misery? Go to Christ with all thy impenitency and unbelief, to get faith and repentance from Him.
