Incorruptible Beauty
Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel—rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.
1 Peter 3:3-4
Peter continued to minister to the women in the church. He wanted to give them an understanding of what true beauty looked like. Christian women need to dress modestly. They should not be trying to get attention by wearing tight, seductive clothing. This will only cause men to lust after them.
Peter focused on the hidden person––the inward heart. Ladies, underline that verse in your Bibles. What did God say to the prophet Samuel when the Lord was choosing the next King of Israel? “For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7).
What is the condition of your heart? Listen, true beauty is seen in a woman’s character––a gentle or meek and quiet, peaceable spirit. Now meek does not mean weak; it means “power under control.” You can be yourself, but cultivate the hidden woman. Be a godly woman. In Proverbs 31:25, the virtuous woman has godly strength: Strength and honor are her clothing.... In the sight of God this woman is precious.
Also, a woman’s disposition is to have a quiet spirit; she should not be brash or argumentative. Think about it. Examine your character and ask yourself, is it pleasing to God? If you live your life to please God, then you will also be pleasing to your husband and a good example to your daughters.
There is nothing wrong with looking nice for your husband or putting on nice clothing, makeup and jewelry. Again, nothing is wrong with that! However, inward beauty is attractive and lasting––it is an incorruptible beauty.
Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.

About Raul Ries
Raul Ries is the Senior Pastor of Calvary Chapel Golden Springs and President of Somebody Loves You Ministries. After his miraculous conversion in 1971, Raul began to read and study the Bible extensively even though he had a limited education. In 1974 he began a home Bible study with seven other committed individuals. Soon, he started to preach and counsel youth during the noon hour at his former high school, Baldwin Park High.
