Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. It has been said that those who ignore the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them. That is also true when it comes to sin. Running the race of life is a lot easier when we avoid the ruts in the road, and the ruts in our lives. Today: some pointed reminders that God wants us as Christians to turn away from the sins that so easily, and frequently, beset us.

There are certain laws built into the fabric of the universe...gravity...the speed of light...and the laws of sowing and reaping. You cannot avoid gravity, and you cannot change the speed of light. Neither can you buck the system that says "what you reap, you sow." God uses this principle to teach His children to not sin, and sometimes the lessons are hard. If you find it tough to stop sinning, stay with us.

In this age of instant gratification, it is tough to have to wait months for your flowers to grow up before they can bloom. Farmers understand this. They sow seeds in the spring and reap crops in the fall. In the same way, we may sin and not see immediate consequences. But be certain, the consequences will come just as surely as the corn gets eight feet tall.

Most of us are creatures of habit. It is easy to fall back into old patterns of sin, even after we have sought God's forgiveness. Often we get tripped up in the race of life by returning to the detours of past behavior. Some of us are quite sure that there is no way to break out of the cycle of sin, forgiveness, restoration, and back to sin. Today: we begin to find that way out.

The Old Testament gives us vivid word pictures of where forgiven sin ends up. Those images give us sinners real hope. We can run the race of life in freedom once we understand that, as far as God is concerned, our sins have been buried in the depths of the sea. So, if God has pronounced us clean, who are we to hang on to bitter memories? Today: where God puts forgiven sins.

The Bible teaches that when God forgives our sins, He "remembers them no more." How can this be, since God knows everything? After great spiritual failures, we say with King David, "My sin is ever before me." So how can it not be before God? The answer lies in the concept of "covering." Today: hope for all who fear their sins on earth will never be forgotten in heaven.

When we are faced with the long-term consequences of our sins, it can be hard to believe that God has really forgiven them. Many who struggle with guilt find it returning to haunt them even after they have sought forgiveness from God. We need to realize that God will help us deal with sin's consequences once we reckon ourselves clean in His sight through Christ.

Whether you know it or not, you have a mortal enemy. Satan is the great accuser, always making sure you feel guilty. He tries to do this even after we have sought God's forgiveness for our sins. Remember: he was a liar yesterday, he is a liar today and he will be lying all the way to the Lake of Fire. Today: we will learn how to deal with the devil.

Maybe you have embezzled funds, had an affair, abandoned your family, or even gotten away with committing a serious felony. Even though you have not been caught by the law, you have been caught by your own guilt. Life is closing in on you...no peace…no happiness...no future hope. Today: the key to freedom from guilt and forgiveness from the God who is able to bestow it as a gift.

No matter how dirty the landscape, a covering of fresh snow always makes the ugly beautiful. That is how God handles sin. We who run life's race beset by guilt need to know that God has provided a covering for our sins: some "fresh snow" for the dirt of our past lives. Today: an Old Testament story that shows how God can remove your guilt, and pronounce you clean.
