What God Does With Forgiven Sin #3 of 3

May 6, 2008

We can run the race of life in freedom once we understand that, as far as God is concerned, our sins have been buried in the depths of the sea. So, if God has pronounced us clean, who are we to hang on to bitter memories? Today: where God puts forgiven sins.

Today: hope for all who fear their sins on earth will never be forgotten in heaven.

When we are faced with the long-term consequences of our sins, it can be hard to believe that God has really forgiven them. Many who struggle with guilt find it returning to haunt them even after they have sought forgiveness from God. We need to realize that God will help us deal with sin's consequences once we reckon ourselves clean in His sight through Christ.

Remember: he was a liar yesterday, he is a liar today and he will be lying all the way to the Lake of Fire. Today: we will learn how to deal with the devil.

Many people carry a paralyzing burden of guilt for past sins. What is worse, they see no way out of their predicaments. These people do not run in the race of life, they plod at best. Beset by the crushing load of self-blame, they face each new day with yesterday's emotional baggage. Today: you will hear God's way out of bearing guilt for the rest of your life.

Some Christians never commit those really big sins. They just harbor resentment in their hearts when others are forgiven. The story of the prodigal son is also the story of the unforgiving brother. Most of us are one or the other, and all of us are in need of God's grace: His unmerited favor. Today: coming home after being in the far country, and, coming home after having never left.

When we sin greatly, many of us flee from God, thinking there is no way we can ever get back into the Father's good graces. We run our races of life on tough terrain, finding out that sin takes us where we really do not want to go. When we get weary enough, some of us make the crucial choice to return to the Father, no matter what. Today: the journey home begins.

What do you do when your secret life is a secret no longer? What do you do when your well-managed cover story is shattered? As we run the race of life, let us not forget that every saint has a past and every sinner has a future. Repairing the damage of sin means re-establishing contact with God, and rebuilding relationships with those we have hurt. There is a way to come home.
