We often fall into the habit of only going to God when we need something from Him. When that’s all we consume our time with Him for, we fail to build intimacy in the relationship. The way that we can fix this is by going to Him merely to minister to and bless Him. We know the importance of telling our spouse that we love them; in the same way it is crucially important that we tell God we love Him and thank Him for all He’s done for us. This is how we can know Him more deeply so that when we see Him one day we can run up to Him and give Him a big hug and say, “I’m so glad to finally see you!” It’s in remembering to praise Him, even in small ways like a birthday cake that can truly minister to and bless His heart.

The term for pure gold is 24 karat gold. This means that there is no other kind of metal mixed in. In order for gold to be refined to this purity, it must go through many instances of being in a burning fire until all the dross and other impurities have been removed. This is the way that God refines us to be more like His Son, Jesus. Once we have accepted His free gift of salvation, we have Jesus inside of us and must encounter times of “heat” in our lives until Jesus is clearly seen. Thankfully, God never allows us to experience more than we can handle. But there is still “heat” in our lives that we must face so that all of that which is not of Jesus can be removed.

The problem with most Christians, much less people, is that they are pickers and chooses. When it comes to churches, most people hop around to different churches when they get bored or something happens at one church that they don’t necessarily like. The concept of being a “lifer” is rarely instilled, yet we should live out “lifer” characteristics in our every day life. This includes sticking with a place and people that we have committed to as well as fighting to the very end about things that God calls us to fight about. One of these fights that can bring us to marching on the gates of hell is the fight against abortion in our nation. Once we wake up to the truth of the horrific deaths that occur everyday, we cannot help but stand up against such an injustice. Jesus calls us to follow Him, and that means that we take up our cross, die to ourselves and follow Him for life.
