Be Do Be Do Be Do

April 29, 2019

God loves us because of who we are regardless of what we do. When we accept the fact that we are loved, the doing follows and we can then obey Him and love others. Instead of focusing on doing in order to define our being, we need to let our being determine our doing.

A battle cross to mark the place of a death does not mean much to people who did not know that person, but it symbolizes a great loss to those who knew them. Jesus died on a cross to win a battle for us but it only means something if we are in relationship with Him.

Following Jesus requires us to jump all in, not looking back or letting anything else take our loyalty. Even if we stumble and don’t do things perfectly, we can still be moving forward as long as we keep our eyes on Him and ultimately yield to His calling.

Although the Church is filled with messy people, God designed it to work in such a way as a family coming together and caring for one another. When we are adopted into His family, we need to plug into a local church family to live the Christian life united, loving our brothers and sisters.

The world tells us many lies about how we can be in control of ourselves and everything’s going to be okay. The truth is that we are not in control, but we can trust the One who is and who cares enough about us to give us hope in our future.

God gives us plenty of warning signs through His Scripture, His people and the Holy Spirit. We have to heed these warnings to avoid the consequences of disobedience, and spread these warnings to those we love to help them avoid the ultimate consequence of hell.

The Bible tells us that the last days are coming and there are many people who will not be ready. We are given instruction through Scripture so that we can be ready, but also so that we can live our lives pleasing to God.

The Bible tells us that anyone who has heard the Word of God and chooses to not believe it is a fool. He can give us the faith to believe in this crazy salvation story of the Gospel if we would just ask Him.

Whether we acknowledge it or not, we are in a spiritual battle and facing attacks all day every day as attempts to steal, kill and destroy us and God’s plan for our lives. We must be prepared to fight, and always be living in order to bring glory to God in all things.

Jesus suffered cruelty at the hand of the religious leaders leading up to His crucifixion for our sake. When we respond to God’s invitation of salvation, we are brought into His family and held in both His hand and Jesus’ hand, and no one can take us out.

If we truly believe that not only did Jesus live on earth and die on the cross for our sins but also that He was raised from the dead, our lives should be lived in that same power. The fact that Jesus was raised to life gives the message of the Gospel power to change all the lives it touches for those who believe.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
