Tim Keller

Father, Son and Holy Spirit

April 4, 2022

Many people want to talk about Jesus, but they want to relate to him on their own terms. The way to find the real Jesus is to encounter the Jesus of the gospels in the New Testament. In these verses describing the baptism of Jesus, we learn that 1) There is a dance; 2) The greatest need of your life is to get into that dance; and 3) Jesus is the one who can bring you in.

This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on January 15, 2006. Series: King's Cross: The Gospel of Mark, Part 1: The Coming of the King. Scripture: Mark 1:9-13.

The Reason for God
Why does God allow suffering in the world? How can one religion be “right” and the others “wrong”? Hasn’t science basically disproved Christianity? In his book The Reason for God Tim Keller addresses these questions and more. When you give to Gospel in Life this month, we’ll send you two copies of his book as our thanks —one for you and one to give to a friend.

How do we know Jesus isn’t just a great human king or one of many angelic beings? The Gospel of Mark tells us that Jesus is the anointed King, the Son of God. This passage shows us three things about Jesus the King: 1) The King has come (who he is); 2) The King’s school (how you can meet him in the wilderness); and 3) The King’s cross (where he’s going). This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on January 8, 2006. Series: King's Cross: The Gospel of Mark, Part 1: The Coming of the King. Scripture: Mark 1:1-8. To live as God’s Holy people, there are things to which we must say no — and that includes sexual immorality. This sermon helps us understand what sexual immorality is, and what God’s vision for sex and intimacy is. This passage explores both the “negative” parts (the prohibitions or warnings) and the “positive” parts (the blessings, love, and acceptance through Christ) of Christianity. To only embrace the “negative” is to be legalistic; to only embrace the “positive” is to be permissive — a true Christian faith must have both. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on May 5, 1991. Series: Christian Lifestyle. Scripture: Ephesians 5:3-6. This passage is the sum of the Christian life: walk in love, because Jesus loved you by dying for you. We will take three important principles from this short passage: 1) Doctrine and practice are absolutely wedded in the Christian life; 2) Love is the summary of the whole Christian life; 3) The purpose of the cross is to make you sweet. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on April 28, 1991. Series: Christian Lifestyle. Scripture: Ephesians 5:1, 2. In Ephesians, Paul lays down the beauty and genius of the Christian life. What is unique about the Christian life is that the Christian lifestyle flows out of a new self-understanding. One of the new ways Christians understand ourselves is that we are children of God. This passage calls us to 1) Be imitators of God; 2) As dear children. God is a God who speaks, and we bear his image as communicators. Speech is incredibly powerful— there is nothing more fundamental than the need to be understood and to understand. This sermon considers the power of words under two headings: 1) One of the powers of the tongue is a power over you, the speaker; and 2) Words mold our character. his sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on February 17, 1991. How do we get rid of bitterness toward others? Is it even possible? This sermon explores the external and internal side to getting rid of bitterness. Externally, forgiveness must sometimes be granted before it is felt; internally, you have to put on your “new self” in Christ.  This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on February 10, 1991. Series: Christian Lifestyle. Scripture: Ephesians 4:25-32. About Gospel in Life

Gospel In Life is a ministry that features sermons, books, articles, and resources from Timothy Keller, Redeemer Presbyterian Church, and Redeemer City to City. The name reflects our conviction that the gospel changes everything in life. In 1989 Dr. Timothy J. Keller, his wife and three young sons moved to New York City to begin Redeemer Presbyterian Church. He has since become a bestselling author, an influential thinker, and an advocate for ministry in cities and to secular people.

About Tim Keller

Timothy Keller is the founding pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, which he started in 1989 with his wife, Kathy, and three young sons.  For 28 years he led a diverse congregation of young professionals that grew to a weekly attendance of over 5,000.

He is also the Chairman & Co-Founder of Redeemer City to City (CTC), which starts new churches in New York and other global cities, and publishes books and resources for ministry in an urban environment. In 2017 Dr. Keller transitioned to CTC full time to teach and mentor church planters and seminary students through a joint venture with Reformed Theological Seminary's (RTS), the City Ministry Program. He also works with CTC's global affiliates to launch church planting movements.

Dr. Keller’s books, including the New York Times bestselling The Reason for God and The Prodigal God, have sold over 2 million copies and been translated into 25 languages.

Christianity Today has said, “Fifty years from now, if evangelical Christians are widely known for their love of cities, their commitment to mercy and justice, and their love of their neighbors, Tim Keller will be remembered as a pioneer of the new urban Christians.”

Dr. Keller was born and raised in Pennsylvania, and educated at Bucknell University, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and Westminster Theological Seminary. He previously served as the pastor of West Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Hopewell, Virginia, Associate Professor of Practical Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary, and Director of Mercy Ministries for the Presbyterian Church in America.
