In Ephesians, Paul outlines distinct characteristics of the Christian lifestyle: what to do with anger, how to communicate, how to forgive, attitudes toward wealth and toward poverty, and how to use your words. This sermon focuses on communication—our words must be characterized by 1) Kindness; 2) Aptness; and 3) Truthfulness.

This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on March 3, 1991. Series: Christian Lifestyle. Scripture: Ephesians 4:25-32.

The Reason for God
Why does God allow suffering in the world? How can one religion be “right” and the others “wrong”? Hasn’t science basically disproved Christianity? In his book The Reason for God Tim Keller addresses these questions and more. When you give to Gospel in Life this month, we’ll send you two copies of his book as our thanks —one for you and one to give to a friend.

God is a God who speaks, and we bear his image as communicators. Speech is incredibly powerful— there is nothing more fundamental than the need to be understood and to understand. This sermon considers the power of words under two headings: 1) One of the powers of the tongue is a power over you, the speaker; and 2) Words mold our character. his sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on February 17, 1991. How do we get rid of bitterness toward others? Is it even possible? This sermon explores the external and internal side to getting rid of bitterness. Externally, forgiveness must sometimes be granted before it is felt; internally, you have to put on your “new self” in Christ.  This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on February 10, 1991. How is it possible to be angry and indignant at injustice, but hold no ill will or bitterness towards others? Anger in and of itself isn’t sinful, but there are three forms of sinful anger: bitterness, blowing up; and clamming up. This sermon explores how an experience of God’s radical forgiveness can enable us to forgive ourselves and others.  This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on February 3, 1991. The Bible gives us a wonderful and amazingly balanced understanding of anger. What does it mean to be angry and not sin? It means that anger is not wrong in and of itself, but it can very easily lead to a tremendous amount of trouble. This sermon will examine what it means to be angry, and what it means to not sin in your anger.  This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on January 27, 1991. The Christian lifestyle is distinct from other pathways to morality, and necessitates a radical change. What is so distinctive about the Christian lifestyle, and how does it differ from other kinds of morality? 1) You do things because of who you are; 2) Christian morality has a distinct attitude toward the truth; and 3) Natural ability is not the basis for change, and therefore, failures have as much hope as successes.  This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on January 13, 1991. We’re looking at the characteristics—also known as the “attributes”—of God according to the Bible. This sermon looks at the grace of God. In this sermon, we’ll see that grace is a gift that is also indispensable and infinitely costly—and, if you see the indispensability and the costliness of God’s grace, it will come into your life as traumatic tranquility. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on May 1, 2011. Series: To Know the Living God; The God Who Makes Alive. Scripture: Ephesians 2:1-10. We’re looking at the characteristics—also known as the “attributes”—of God according to the Bible. This sermon looks at God as the God who makes alive.  When Israel was invaded by the Babylonians and taken into exile, they had no hope of the future. Yet God, through Ezekiel, gives them a picture of resurrection, and it’s both a hope and a strength to them and us.  This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on April 24, 2011. Series: To Know the Living God; The God Who Makes Alive. Scripture: Ezekiel 37:1-14. We’re looking at the characteristics—also known as the “attributes”—of God according to the Bible. This sermon looks at God as the God who reconciles sinners—we have to be reconciled to God, and God has to be reconciled to us. We’ll notice: 1) The more visible but lesser problem; 2)  The less visible but greater problem; and 3) The great solution to it all.  This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on April 17, 2011. Series: To Know the Living God; The God Who Makes Alive. Scripture: Hebrews 9:11-14, 22-26. We’re looking at the characteristics—also known as the “attributes”—of God according to the Bible. This sermon looks at the holiness of God by way of an enigmatic and little known incident in the life of Joshua. About Gospel in Life

Gospel In Life is a ministry that features sermons, books, articles, and resources from Timothy Keller, Redeemer Presbyterian Church, and Redeemer City to City. The name reflects our conviction that the gospel changes everything in life. In 1989 Dr. Timothy J. Keller, his wife and three young sons moved to New York City to begin Redeemer Presbyterian Church. He has since become a bestselling author, an influential thinker, and an advocate for ministry in cities and to secular people.

About Tim Keller

Timothy Keller is the founding pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, which he started in 1989 with his wife, Kathy, and three young sons.  For 28 years he led a diverse congregation of young professionals that grew to a weekly attendance of over 5,000.

He is also the Chairman & Co-Founder of Redeemer City to City (CTC), which starts new churches in New York and other global cities, and publishes books and resources for ministry in an urban environment. In 2017 Dr. Keller transitioned to CTC full time to teach and mentor church planters and seminary students through a joint venture with Reformed Theological Seminary's (RTS), the City Ministry Program. He also works with CTC's global affiliates to launch church planting movements.

Dr. Keller’s books, including the New York Times bestselling The Reason for God and The Prodigal God, have sold over 2 million copies and been translated into 25 languages.

Christianity Today has said, “Fifty years from now, if evangelical Christians are widely known for their love of cities, their commitment to mercy and justice, and their love of their neighbors, Tim Keller will be remembered as a pioneer of the new urban Christians.”

Dr. Keller was born and raised in Pennsylvania, and educated at Bucknell University, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and Westminster Theological Seminary. He previously served as the pastor of West Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Hopewell, Virginia, Associate Professor of Practical Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary, and Director of Mercy Ministries for the Presbyterian Church in America.
