Al Lindner

January 14, 2013
This week’s interview has Gerry back in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Brainerd, Minnesota, and a visit to Lindner Media Studios. Gerry visits with Al Lindner, and the two talk about the evolution, if you will, of he and his brother Ron’s business activities through the years and how they got to where they are today. They produce The Angling Edge television show and most of the commercials that you see for a variety of fishing/boating products that are for sale today. They also talk about the transition through the years after Al and Ron came to Christ, to become more and more active in sharing the Gospel.

The two also talk about "Hooked For Life", that has a similar format as "Centershot", but uses fishing as the “hook” to bring the families in, not only to learn about fishing, but to learn scriptures that many have never heard before.

A very special commercial aired last Christmas in the upper half of Michigan, as Jay’s Sporting Goods did not try to get people to come in and buy products; but to just remember that this time of the year is about the birth of the baby Jesus. One of the owners, Jeff Poet, and the manager of both stores, Mark Copeland, talk about the company policy of "Jesus First", and how many phone calls they received from this commercial that aired in December of 2011. Listeners will be brought to tears when they hear this radio spot which is part of the broadcast this week.

Dr. John Whitmore, who teaches geology and paleontology at Cedarville University, is this week’s guest. John shares with the listeners how he got involved as a young man running around the woods of Ohio, collecting rocks, arrowheads and fossils. John is considered to be the world’s leading authority on fossilized fish, and he discusses how he did his research in this area of expertise. Gerry & John talk about the annual fossil hunt done every year near the Creation Museum that sees families attend from many different states. This week’s interview is with Dr. Richard Swenson about his book, More Than Meets the Eye. Dr. Swenson taught surgery at the University of Madison Wisconsin and his minor is in physics. He discusses how complex we are, starting from the subatomic particle level, molecules, cells and details of how the eyes and ears work. All this evidence along with information that he shares about our solar system and universe points to the fact that we had to have had an intelligent designer.

Captain Dan Keating shares his life story with Gerry, as the two motor in after a fine day of fishing on Lake Michigan. Dan tells about how he rebelled against God and his family values; and what took place that eventually brought him to pray, asking Jesus to be his Savior. This story includes becoming a charter captain on Lake Michigan, and writing a book about salmon fishing. From that book he did a DVD on fishing, which included his testimony and eventually wrote the book, Angling Life, subtitled "A Fisherman Reflects on Success, Failure, and the Ultimate Catch."

The founder and president of the Christian Deer Hunters Association, Dr. Tom Rakow, shares with Gerry about his testimony as the two visit together in Silver Lake, Minnesota. Tom tells the story of how he became a law breaker as a young boy when he shot his first deer out-of-season. This snowballed as he continued to do not only the poaching, but became what was considered an underage and teenage alcoholic. This story includes the death of several loved ones, and his vow at his older brother’s funeral to never love anyone again. Yet, as his life spiraled out of control, God had a plan and Tom prayed to receive Christ. He ministers full-time today through outdoor ministry, and as a pastor in Minnesota.

Craig and Louise Johnson share how they came to Christ, and the struggles that their marriage encountered, when Craig first made this decision to receive Jesus. Louise talks about the factors that caused her to seriously look at the transformation in her husband’s life, and some of the steps that brought her to making her own decision for Christ. Today the couple is involved in full-time outdoor ministry, as it was outdoor ministry that brought Craig to Christ first, then Louise, and many others in their life’s journey.

The owners of Three Rivers Archery, Dale and Sandi Karch, are the guests on this week’s program. They share how they got started in traditional archery and opened a small shop there in Wisconsin. Dale started to build Tomahawk bows; his recurves are one of the best-selling bows today. When they approached Three Rivers Archery about putting the Tomahawk in the catalogue, they informed them that if they wanted them in, they would have to buy the company because it was for sale. God had been preparing them for this in their archery journey as you will certainly hear with this interview.
