Free Resource | Does the Bible Promote Tolerance or Intolerance?
One group says the Bible is a book about love, mercy, and kindness. They think of the story of the Good Samaritan and of Jesus telling us to turn the other cheek. So how could anyone think the Bible prevents a tolerant society? But for another group, the Bible is far from tolerant. There’s the conquest of Canaan. There’s Elijah killing Baal’s prophets by his own hand. And in the New Testament, Jesus talks often about hell. That’s not tolerant. What then can we say in answer to this question? Sometimes we think of the Christian life as, "I bought the ticket; I'm going to heaven," but that's such a limited view. When you become a Christian, you enter into His kingdom and while you're still in the world with its battles, now you have a purpose and someone to live for.

We're not going to get out of this world without passing through death, unless Jesus returns. It is right to pray for healing, but we also need to pray that God is honored through life and through suffering and through death. Some of us are better at encouragement than others. But it is critically important in church life for all of us to learn the power of encouragement, to learn to lift each other up and point each other forward, rather than tear each other down.

The book of Acts is paralleled with the book of Revelation. In Revelation, the curtian is drawn back and you see the spiritual opposition. The human opposition in Acts is a representation of that spiritual opposition. The people in Acts pray to the sovereign God, and he moves in great power through their prayers.

When you read through the book of Acts and the disciples speak, it is with boldness and courage. That's the right approach to adversity. Now is not the time for the church to be silent, but to lean into witnessing and standing up for what is right and true and just.

Guilt is all about the past. Maybe you feel stuck or you can't get over something you did. But redemption is all about the future, and the end of this Psalm finishes with hope.

All the ideology that our society has bought into—atheism and secularism—is morally bankrupt and gives you no hope after the grave. Therefore it exposes your fears right now. Hear Pastor Josh apply God's Word to what is happening in our world today.

Here we discover new truths about the community of Jesus. Let us never get tired of re-studying the Bible. There is always more to learn and new insights to be given.

Acts 2 talks about the controversial topic of being filled with the Holy Spirit. It can divide us. The filling of the Holy Spirit is a very important teaching and experience for Christians—but some run away from this divisive topic and others run to extremes about the Holy Spirit. It's critical for us to understand how to walk in the Spirit.
