According to the Bible, it is an expression of love to discipline your childen, but society is leaning the other way. Think of parenting this way: you're given a rose and your task is to prune it to make it the best rose it can be. But you're not trying to change the rose into a lily. Don't try to force them into a particular mold, but discover who they've been made to be by God.

It's important to study the Bible because we need to hear what it says. God's mind is bigger than ours. One of the great temptations is to want to bring the Bible into line with our thinking rather than the other way around. We always need to submit to Scripture, even when it says things that make us feel uncomfortable.

When you become a Christian, you are given a new nature. It is not natural for our new selves to lie because we are no longer like that. We have switched so that it is natural to tell the truth. But we still have a battle within us with our old nature.
