Free Resource | Does the Bible Promote Tolerance or Intolerance?
One group says the Bible is a book about love, mercy, and kindness. They think of the story of the Good Samaritan and of Jesus telling us to turn the other cheek. So how could anyone think the Bible prevents a tolerant society? But for another group, the Bible is far from tolerant. There’s the conquest of Canaan. There’s Elijah killing Baal’s prophets by his own hand. And in the New Testament, Jesus talks often about hell. That’s not tolerant. What then can we say in answer to this question? Perhaps you are in a very difficult family or work situation. Often during the holidays we reach a breaking point and are not sure we can take it any more. How do we make sure we are the same person in church, at home, and at work? How do we honor Christ in every situation?

Loving, showing humility, and forgiving one another are all discussed in the context of the one body of the church. But what about at home or work? The Bible is very practical, and Paul tells us like it is!

Everything is to be guided by the principle of The Name. We should ask ourselves, "Can this be done or said in Jesus' name?" If we cannot say or do something in a way that reflects what Jesus would say or do, then we should not say or do it!

Trying to gain holiness by following a set of rules just brings legalism and guilt. True holiness comes from the pushing in of the truth of the gospel ever deeper into your soul. This only happens when we receive the Spirit of God and set our minds and hearts on things above.

If we're going to be holy, then we need to face up to who God is. He is a God of love but He's also a God of wrath and He is opposed to evil and injustice, and that is good news. We need to take God seriously at Christmas so that this good news is more than just a sentimental feel-good moment.

When we hear the word sinner, we tend to compare ourselves to others and think we're not so bad. But Paul shows that none of us is righteous.

The only way to have our holidays be holy days, to become more spiritually mature and to deal with sin in our lives is by a process Pastor Josh calls "spiritual violence." We've got to rip out sin out by the root.

You can say that you understand how to become a real Christian, then seek Him as an act of will, and then set your mind to what pleases Jesus. But what if you still don't feel very motivated? Why should you be holy?
December 19, 2019
The most important way to become holy and please Jesus is to set your mind on things above and not on earthly things. It is a battle of the mind. During the holidays, let's figure out what they were all meant to be about and who Christ really is, and let's commit to Him and make our holidays holy days.

Society seems to be growing out of the idea of life after death. But can we really attend a funeral and not give a thought to whether this is all life is about? When you're around death, you're close to eternity, and the veil parts a little bit and life seems very translucent.
