But a parent still needs to set boundaries in these areas and others, until a teen is ready and able to handle them. Susan Merrill, author of “The Passionate Mom,” encourages moms to gauge a child’s maturity before giving a child free reign in certain areas, whether that be using technology like a cell phone or video games, or stepping out on a date.
