Some kids rebel. Others don't. Why? Rebecca Gregoire Lindenbach, author of the book, "Why I Didn't Rebel," looks back on her teen years and explains what rebellion is and what it is not. Lindenbach recalls how her parents responded to her mood swings and teen angst, and encourages parents to really listen to their teens and equip them to face life's disappointments and challenges.

Love God and love others, in that order. Author Tim Muehlhoff encourages families to not just be against something in the culture, but to be for something by serving in their community. Muehlhoff advocates partnering on the things you can partner with, even if you don't agree with everything. As believers, our lives should be characterized by always showing love and care to those around us.

Author Tim Muehlhoff, a professor of communication at Biola, talks about the importance of balancing truth and grace in our speech. Muehlhoff believes Christians should familiarize themselves with opposing beliefs in order to understand that perspective. The gospel, he states, gives us humility to say, "I can learn from people I disagree with, and even if we disagree, I still care about you and your community."

Ron Deal, director of FamilyLife Blended, talks honestly about struggles that take place in a blended family between the biological children and the new spouse. While it's tempting to want to put the children first, Deal cautions against it. The marriage must always come first, Deal advises, and parenting must come from a position of unity.

Dr. Juli Slattery, author of "ReThinking Sexuality," explains what it means when parents sexually disciple their children on the biblical view of sex. From outward appearances, the world has won in the sexual arena, but Slattery tells why she believes Christians need to reclaim lost territory. Every sexual issue is ultimately a spiritual issue, and what we think about sex begins with what we think about God.

God created each one of us as a sexual being. How does that fact influence who we are? Clinical psychologist and author Dr. Juli Slattery encourages parents to talk to their children about God's design for sexuality, even if the conversation is awkward. Slattery lists some of the key points parents need to discuss with their kids, like why sex is sacred to God's heart.

Rosaria Butterfield and her husband, Kent, wanted to get to know their neighbors when they moved into their new neighborhood. So they moved the grill and picnic table into the front yard, and now it's become a favorite meeting place for friends and neighbors alike. Butterfield illustrates how she practices radical hospitality, caring for her neighbors, welcoming the stranger, and loving the lonely. By doing this, she explains, we can live out the gospel in front of others and build relationships, and hopefully see others come to Christ.

Wife and mom Rosaria Butterfield talks about practicing radical ordinary hospitality as a way to live out the gospel. It's not always practical or sensible, and opening up your home to soothe and serve the lost will cost you something, but the blessings are unfathomable. Jesus is alive, and our neighbors are image-bearers of a holy God even if they don't know Him yet. Butterfield reminds us that hospitality isn't just an event that you do when the cat hair is off the couch and you've swept the floor, but our homes are the places where we can take the church to the people.
August 21, 2018
Author Rosaria Butterfield illustrates how "radically ordinary hospitality" can be a bridge for bringing the gospel to lost friends and neighbors--something she experienced herself on her own faith journey. She tells how she and her family befriended her former neighbor, Hank, and recalls how a couple reached out to her years earlier when she was a lesbian activist teaching at Syracuse University. Butterfield reminds listeners that real hospitality involves open invitations to your home and seeking out strangers with the love of Christ.
