Being Courageous Where It Matters Most

September 29, 2011
When is a movie more than just a movie? When it's a tool that God uses to impact lives. That's the hope of Alex and Stephen Kendrick, the brains and brawn behind the soon-to-be-released movie, Courageous, the fourth release of Sherwood Pictures. Alex and Stephen talk about making the film and about the changes they've made in their own lives as they've come under a deeper conviction to love and lead their families spiritually.

Your leadership as a husband is vital. Brian Goins recalls his years on his school's rowing team and his responsibilities as the stroke to set the pace for the rest of the crew. Like the stroke on the team, a husband sets the pace of the marriage, Brian explains, so he needs to become a student of his wife and learn to nourish, cherish and communicate with her in a way she understands.

Real men play through the pain. Married to Jen for 15 years, Brian Goins asks men to recall their courtship days and the way they "went out on a limb" for the women they loved. But once they've conquered, Brian states, the little courtesies and sacrifices often fall by the wayside, and marriage often starts to feel more dutiful than pleasurable. Hear how you can jolt yourself out of complacency to where you ought to be for the sake of your marriage.

No one wants their children to do without. But sometimes we forget that providing our children with enough, is, well ... enough. Author Jill Savage, a mother to five, talks about the joys and benefits of living with less so that your family has more.

Contentment can be fleeting, especially in a culture where products are outdated almost as soon as they're released. Hearts at Home founder Jill Savage tells how cutting back can often be the best thing for your family. Jill shares how she's done that with her own family of seven, and talks about the surprising benefits of living on less.

Of course your children want a lot. But what do they really need? Jill Savage, a mother of five, encourages parents not to sacrifice the emotional stability, relational depth and time that their children need most for those things that will give them the least satisfaction in the long run--more "stuff" and activities. Jill asks parents to count the cost before accepting that new promotion or responsibility.
